The Launcher UI is simply unbearably slow. Single clicks often result in nothing at all happening for several seconds, and double or triple clicks result in the whole thing going unresponsive, before an error message popping up, which seems to jolt the program back into working order once dismissed.

Am I the only one having this problem? I've seen it on at least two different rigs I've played the game on.

Yours is the only case that's come to my attention, at least. You are saying once you get into the game proper, it is OK then?

What is the error message?

FYI In your Steam Library right-click on this game and choose Properties. Click on Set Launch Options, and paste this in there:
-skiplauncher

Then you get straight into the game.

The UI runs fine in game, yes. The problem is just with the launcher. It takes forever to come up at all, and when it does come up, it's laggy and largely unresponsive - usually requiring a large amount of waiting, and sometimes multiple clicks of the same button, before it does anything I want it to do.

The error message is just the standard Windows "Stellaris is not responding" tab. It gives me the options to either "quit" or "wait for the program to respond." If I click the latter, the launcher usually comes right back to working order, and completes the command I gave it earlier.

I'd love to just skip the launcher entirely, but it's how I manage my mods. The management of said mods is also exactly why this issue is such a pain.

It just takes a friggin' eternity trying to get anything done through the launcher UI.

How many mods, total, do you have in your mod folder?

I've got a few dozen. The largest is probably AlphaMod, or one of its derivatives.

Is simply having the folder selected in the launcher UI enough to cause slow down, even though the game proper isn't running yet?

I've got quite a few mods for CK2 and EU4 as well. I've never noticed any similar lag with their launcher UI.

Evidently :) My guess is the launcher reads in at least part of the mod file to be able to display its title and characteristics, and check compatibility with the current game version.

We're all learning here ... please let us know if you manage to determine if it's a particular mod causing it, or just the number of them.

I'm not saying this is right or OK! If this turns out to be the cause, you have a good case for a bug report in that forum. Being able to say it's caused by mod X, or by having more than Y mods, would be very useful info for QA over there.

I have about twice that many subscribed in total. However, I have noticed that the lag only occurs when the mods are actually active. It gets worse as I work my way from the top of the list to the bottom, activating mods as I go.
