While it almost never happened in the previous 30 versions of the game, it's surprisingly common now, at least in the current ''heavy colonial'' game I'm trying. Which is nice and make the game more dynamic. But even at -99 warscore, my colonies do not ask for my help ?

(Well, I do use the approach of DOWing in return the attacking coalition, but it does not work very well, since the wars are not ''merged'' and tends to continue after I impose a 99% warscore peace on attackers)

You can use enforce peace - since the defender is your colonial nation, you will become warleader if they refuse.

Also, Paradox (Gnivom, I think) has already stated that the natives' aggressiveness will be dialed down a little in the next patch.

Its surprisingly common due to ai natives actually being a threat now whereas before only an inca you forgot to eat or iroqouis could be a threat

I thought people were exaggerating this aspect a bit, and yes enforce peace was an option. But I finally played a colonial game in the current version and wow.

I am Portugal and I have been at war non stop for the last 50+ years and it's 1572. My colonial nations get attacked constantly. I haven't been able to do anything except enforce peace over and over. I can see how this is realistic or why the AI natives would take the opportunistic approach (even though they lose every time), but this is incredibly tedious and just not fun.

You can use enforce peace, which at least makes you war leader and calls in all your colonies and allies.
It does not call in your allies but does pull in your subjects. Your allies get a -1000 reasons for call to arms and you can not call them in. The modifier is called "Doesn't want to get involved in escalated colonial wars."

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I believe that only happens if your allies were colonial overlords themselves.

And yes, unfortunately for some bizarre reason the AI loves attacking colonies, even though you'll just enforce peace.

Wish I could, but I'm spending all my time defending my colonies already. And I am aware that just straight conquering the land is more efficient, especially if you just wait until later in the game and you can just annex it all without ever having a colonist thanks to absolutism. Many aspects of this game can be trivialized by just conquering it yourself.

Coloniziation is an entire game mechanic that should be at least reasonably fun or viable. It's a huge part of the historical time frame of this game. I would say currently it's neither fun nor viable.

Almost all game mechanics are marginalized by conquest after the first 100-150 years of the game. That's why people stop playing then.

Not to say you're wrong of course, but figured I'd point it out.

As an aside, it helps a lot to invest in your colonies. Build buildings for them, develop their land, and subsidize them if you can afford it. This will make the colony on its own appear like more of a threat to the natives, and they'll hesitate more before attacking. Fledgeling colonies are usually in a really bad state economically and militarily, often have a lot of wrong culture land unless you've been attacking natives in provinces you colonize, and can't really afford things like forts and and buildings while also maintaining armies. In the very few colonial games I've played, I've found it pays off (for my sanity, at least) to heavily invest in my colonies to really get them up on their feet, rather than just consider them a done deal once they're a Colonial Nation.

Does building timer reset on a fort if it swaps over to a colonial nation?
Also the rebel warning flag means rebel stomping new Spain is alot easier this patch

Nah just need someone reformed then you can pull a concede

Agreed, sometimes its easier to map paint the fly over states now due to tribal land changes, when they really should lose hinterlands
