Ahh fair enough, that makes sense, i never did open it yet. I got the technology for it about 20 years in.. haha, the building to convert nanites to strategic resources.. looked real exciting.. then i never did get to actually play with it...

I saw posted somewhere on the forums that dark matter is now used for rare techs that you get from the enigmatic fortress. No idea about the nanites.

Dark matter is probably used for dark matter reactors, shields, etc. I had tons of that stuff in my first game but no way to use it

Zro is used for psionics

Nanites are used for the nanite repair system you get from the scapper bot. Not sure what else

Nanites are used for one ship component (AUTO_REPAIR_2) and one building (building_nanite_transmuter).

Dark matter is used for Enigmatic ship components.

Just browsed over the FE's ships, and their advanced systems do indeed require Dark Matter.

I killed the scavenger leviathan expecting to get the nanite repair component, but I couldn't use it because it required nanite strategic resource. I looked all over the galaxy and tried to trade with everyone but couldn't find a source of nanites. I had all but repeatable techs so I assume it didn't require one unless I was extremely unlucky. So my last hope was to open the L-Gate, but to say that it was disappointing would be an understatement. It did nothing. The Dessanu Gift doesn't give anything. Nowhere in the game that I have looked can find information on how to acquire Nanites.

EDIT: btw there already are a bunch of bug reports on the Dessanu gift problem.
