Eliminate nations and divisions. If you annex all nations and disband all division the game will run very fast. Divisions and battles are what really sucks up computing power.


Thanks Pang, I ended up uninstalling AOD and Steam. Redownloaded them both and game much much faster now. I had a ton of saved games, not sure if that was a factor or not.

Depending on your virus scanner, making its real time protection skip AODGame.exe can increase speed considerably.
If you have a weak but newish processor, explicitely putting the process onto a single core might be beneficial, as the processor might automatically slow down the other cores to savely overclock the busy one.
If you have played for several hours without pause, closing and restarting the program might also help.

... Note that some lategame slowdown is unavoidable. Since 1.10 it should be much less pronounced though? I get agreeable speeds on a modest Intel i3 processor up into 1964, whereas on the same system the game approaches unplayability by 1956.
