So I just finished the last priority mission Coromodir and I managed to salvage the entire Victoria's unique King Crab.

It turns out that the unique King Crab isn't really superior to the normal King Crab.

I don't think the mech has higher tonnage than the normal version and its medium pulse laser isn't really that good. (I think a ML++ +10dmg is probably better)

The only good thing about it is that you get to keep a unique mech as a sovenior.

One thing I have noted is that the unique King Crab is filled with all short range weapons and nothing long range.

I think this mech fits Victoria's character as she seems to be pretty short sighted and has short fuse / short temper who doesn't consider the big picture when doing things.

Even if it is treated as a stock KGC-0000, Victoria still had her custom loadout in mission. That would mean that there is a way to have variants which have a custom loadout, but don't count as a different mech for purposes of salvage. That could be useful for modding in new loadouts and having them show up in the campaign without having them dilute the total number of variants for salvage.

Edit: Maybe, if it came with the custom loadout it could just have the same display name, but could be considered a different unit by the system...

After seeing what you have written, I went to look at the json files.

It seems like there are two separate json files for the king crab. (one for the normal version and one for the Victoria's version)

And it's interesting to see that even though the two json files are different, the ChassisID is exactly the same for both mechs.

That's not that unusual. Mechs with multiple variants can have the same chassisid without issue since that file determines the hardpoints available to the variant. Since the KGC-V-000 has the same hardpoints as the standard KGC no new chassisdef was necessary. The mechdef file is where equipment and armor info are located so the -V-000 required a new one to mark that it carries different equipment.

It makes sense... even though Victoria's KC is different HBS wanted the parts to be usable.
I don't think the Victoria KC parts are usable to be able to combine into the parts of a normal KC.

I think I saw someone posted somewhere a screen shot where there are two different KC parts sitting in separate locations in the mech store and they did not combine into a single location.

If I have time later, I will try to search for it and post here.

There's a bug around this particular mission. As I understand it, if you play the mission straight through you get no king crab salvage at all even if you do a headcap or pilot kill. However, if you save in the middle of the mission then reload, you are then eligible to salvage the king crab.

Interesting... this might be related to the sudden disappearance of Missions, or not.

I'm just glad that King Crab can be salvaged. Wasn't it not too long ago that it wasn't possible to claim Victoria's Mech?

I think I found the screen shot.

Notice that in the screen shot, there are two different salvages for the KC.

It is interesting to note that both of them have the same Chassis name KGC-0000.

One of the KC salvage is 1/3 and the other KC salvage is 2/3.

This most likely would mean that one is for the normal KC and the other is for the Victoria KC.

My guess here, without really digging into it, is that Victoria's KGC's salvage name is the same as the normal KGC whihc is why it shows up the same. Either this is a simple oversight on HBS's part -or- the salvage name is drawn from the chassisdef file and since the -V-0000 and the -0000 share a chassisdef you get this scenario.

Yes, I have heard people mention that if you play the mission straight through, the Victoria KC cannot be salvage at all.

If you save and reload, then the Victoria KC can be salvage.

I have also noted some interesting observations listed below:

1) It seems that there are two kinds of headshot prevention mechanisms implemented by HBS in this last priority mission. I am not able to determine what trigger the first mechanism or what needs to be done in order for it to occur. I am playing pure vanilla game, without any modding.

2) The first headshot prevention mechanism will apply to any of the enemy mechs and it seems to be triggered randomly. When you want to do a precision strike headshot on the enemy mech, the head section will have a dark grey color and it will be unselectable by the mouse buttion. In order to get around this, simply save the game and reload and it will make the head section selectable again during precision strike.

See the screenshot below for the unselectable head section:

01a.png

See the video at 3:20 for the unselectable head section during precision strike on the cataphract:

Do note that this first headshot prevention mechanism seems to be random and it seems to apply to any enemy mechs randomly.

I am not able to figure out what event will trigger it. Sometimes it happens and sometime it does not happen.

3) The second headshot prevention mechanism apply only to Victoria and it does seem to be a permanent effect. What happens is that I tried more than one hour saving and reloading trying to injure even one point of damage on Victoria's KC headsection using precision strike. I am using all elite 10 10 10 10 pilots or near elite pilots. But all my precision strikes constantly miss the head section. I got curious and sense something is wrong. So I went to search on google and I found that other players have also reported that Victoria KC cannot be headshot.

Unfortunately I have to resort to incapacitate Victoria via knockdown and torso injuries in order to salvage her unique KC.
