After the fall of Britain, not much was happening for a while. The campaign in the Carribean continued to go forward with only a few small raids on the fleet that by National Spain that were easily beaten back. Belize and Jamaica were liberated and the US moved on to there next target. The only resistance encountered was a group of Partisans who had seized Curacao from Japan and quickly ceased fighting when they realized that the "invaders" were the Americans and that they were both fighting the same enemy
A little mishap on the behalf of the Partisans
While this was happening, the Americans were debating where to hit next. It was finally decided that the hammer would fall on two points:Spain and Norway. The plan was to draw the Germans to the North by taking Scandinavia. If they could secure Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, then they would have forces poised to invade Germany. The Germans would have no choice but to send as many men as they could up North to protect the Fatherland. That was when they would hit Portugal, a junior member of the Axis as well as Spain. Once they overran Portugal, , they make a limited advance into Spain. This would draw the Germans into Spain. Then, a second landing would be launched that would land in Basque country and seal off the Pyrenees, closing the trap and hopefully trapping thousands of German soldiers on the Peninsula where they could be destroyed. It was thus decided that after the current run was finished, 30 units of Mountain units would be raised to try hold the Pyrenees. If everything went to plan, the Germans might be forced to chose between defending Spain and Germany and one would be weakened, creating an opening.
The debate then began to decide who would lead these three forces. It was decided that Patton and Bradley would each lead either the invasion of Portugal or Scandinavia. The debate then began to rage over who would lead which assault, as both of them wanted to lead the invasion of Norway, as it was allowed for the man in charge to liberate three countries and he would be in a position to make the first advance onto German soil. The command of the Mountaineers was yet to be given to an obscure officer who had never held a major military command before:General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
A force was raised in assembled in Washington to be sent to Britain to serve as Bradley's army. 5 mechanized and two infantry divisions under Clark.
5 Infantry divisions under General Bolte. and 8 Infantry divisions under General Halsip
While the transports where coming home, however, something happened in the Carribean Eric Raeder and his fleet of at least 10 aircraft carriers, a some cruisers, a super heavy battleship, and several screens(apparently this fleet has changed significantly since I saw it last, since when I controlled Germany, this same fleet had 10 destroyers, 10 Aircraft Carrier, and 10 Super Heavy Battleships), caught the transport flotilla and its escorts in the Carribean
Naturally, they were forced to flee and Admiral Nimitz and the Atlantic Fleet were ordered to the Carribean
The Carribean contained only two places that the Germans could use as a Naval base. The first, Martinique, was quickly seized by Marshal and Nimitz was ordered to rebase to there.
Nimitz was then ordered to Cayenne, the only other German Naval base in the Caribbean, to blockade it and trap Raeder. It seemed like a good plan except that Raeder was not there but in St. Lucia, and once Nimitz left, he came out to attack
Nimitz raced back to try and catch him, but he knew he would be too late. Eventually, he ran into Raeder
en route to Antilles
Nimitz was defeated and lost two battleships, the Arizona and the Texas before being forced to flee.
Nimitz repaired his fleet and protected Marshal's Army of the Carribean as it seized the Lesser Antilles and then went to blockade Cayenne again, thinking that Raeder had gone their. After the seizure of Trinidad and Tobago, Marshall was ferried to Guyana, where he landed in Cuyuni and began advancing overland towards the naval base
Truman also ordered that the previous build orders be canceled and replaced them with 30 parallel runs of Mountain Infantry, only to make a startling discovery. His mountain infantry units were completely obsolete, as their training dated back to 1938 techniques. Shocked that Roosevelt had failed to update this potentially crucial unit, he immediately ordered the Springfield Armory to research better training, equipment, and tactics for them.
This was all overshadowed, however, by a unsurprising but still crucial development
This meant that the Germans were now free to focus their full might on him, not a very appealing prospect. Upon taking Cayenne, they made a rather disappointing discovery. It contained only 2 ships. Eric Raeder was gone and no one knew where he was.
Soon after the seizing of Cayenne, the United States announced that they were going to create the new nation of Guyana in the former British, French, and Dutch territories of South America
Another day, another update. This one however, comes with a vote. Who do you readers think should lead what invasion? In other words, do you think Patton or Bradley should get the task of invading Norway and which one should be relegated to Spain. Remember, Patton is a Panzer Leader who has command over a unit of 10 tanks, whereas Bradley has Offensive Doctrine, Defensive Doctrine, and is an engineer.
