I apologize if this is already known but I did not see anything on this.

I have made a few Battleships with mostly fighter/bombers and small slot weapons. Additionally I use the defensive computer. While I was fighting a fallen empire that seemed to also use defensive computer I noticed that at one point all of my smaller ships had been destroyed.

My larger ships sat there beyond engagement range despite being "engaged" with the enemy fleet who also sat there not actively engaging.

I tested this out a few times after and it does appear to happen almost or possibly literally every time.

Switch to offensive AI.

Defensive keeps your fleet in "formation" which means that battleships stay at far range. Which of course makes the bombers and small weapons useless.

That is a temp fix but there is no reason that the defensive AI shouldn't move the BBs into range at some point. They will indefinitely sit at range and not attack. Additionally the offensive AI will YOLO in (granted BBs aren't the fastest). It doesn't make sense why if the smaller ships have moved in to engage (at near point blank) we can't get BBs to "stay in formation" and do the same.

The only other real option is balanced but then you lose buffs from the other 2 options.
