Personally I am in no hurry to get the manual translated, since I intend to buy the Swedish version later.

Translating the actual game data is much more urgent and could prove quite easy:

Normally when you design a large software application that is intended for many different language zones you carefully separate all the text data from the actual code and GUI. Speaking as a programmer I am pretty certain that Paradox has done this (anything else is ugly and makes translation a living hell).

However, the in-game text might not be stored in normal text files. Paradox could have used a proprietary data format or compiled the text data into the executable, or a DLL or similar. The script-like nature of the scenario files does imply the possibility of an open text format though.

Then there is the possibility of text in the graphics. From the screenshots I judge such text to be scarce or non-existent however.

The bottom line is that Paradox - having already translated the game into English - should have no trouble providing us with the necessary files. However, they might not want to do this for marketing reasons or security reasons (especially if the text resides in the executable).

If they will not do this I promise to examine the data files of the game as soon as I get it and attempt to translate the text from German to English (with the help of y'all I expect :)). Should Paradox allow it, I will then put a patch up for download. I might even correct their mistake and make Sweden a playable nation for good measure. (Just kidding. ;))

How does that sound?

Hello Dark Knight,

I went through the website of Blackstar and all the sites of their partners.
Blackstar doesnot have any information on their site as to foreign delivery, and they state that they will send all orders against payment to the mailman ('per nachname') and I gathered that that would exclude delivery outside Germany.
The only site I found that carried info on foreign delivery is the one of Joysoft.
I ordered with them as they accept payment through creditcard.
In another thread someone from Canada mentioned he had received a declining answer to his email from Joysoft however, stating that 'they do not accept orders from outside Germany at the moment'.
All I got from them sofar was an automated confirmation email.
I'll phone them monday to get things sorted out. I'll let you know.

greetings,
Oranje

Thanks a lot :)!
When I completed my order, I got a blank (confirmation?) email from them in response.

Hi you sad English speaking :(
Being Austrian I'm a native German speaker. So if there are any problems at crucial points you can feel free to ask and I'll do my best to translate it into proper English. This doesn't mean that I'll translate the whole manual or whatever.....just some ambiguous phrases.
For the rest you'll obviously have to trust in Oranje. But I assure you Dutch people speak German quite well..... ;)

With best regards
Harald

PS:
Maybe it helps me to polish my English and get a post doc in the US sometimes :)

Hi, first thanks to Oranje for all the leads to the German version and actually making it possiblr to buy the game. German is not a forte, but as many others out there I'll give it a try. Doomie's idea on the patch sounds simple, ingeneous and very within the realm of the possible, IF the people at Paradox can give us a small helping hand, (to we start begging now or wait a bit?). I don't think it should be a big deal specially seeing that a number of us are pretty much going out of our way to grab a copy of this most excellent game in whatever language we can :)

I also got a automatic mail from Joysoft, no mention of non-delivery though. Will provide feedback if and when that comes.

Thanks again to all for your help.

As I stated in another thread I had heard from Joysoft that they do not deliver outside of Germany. For those that understand German, text of their answer is as follows:

Nach unserer Verbündung mit Gameplay ist es leider momentan noch nicht möglich Bestellungen ausserhalb Deutschlands zu verschicken.

If anybody hears or knows otherwise, please let me know.

I have posted a similar request with Blackstar. I have my doubts that it will be a positive answer. As Oranje said they only accept payment 'per nachname' or in English C.O.D. Not likely that they would do so outside of Germany or at least Europe.

Please, please please let Paradox get a U.S. publisher soon.

I got a confirmation without any mentioning that they do not send outside Germany.

It seems like everybody inside EU ordering from Joysoft get confirmations, and evreybody outside EU get the information that they do not send outside Germany.
