Personally I am in no hurry to get the manual translated, since I intend to buy the Swedish version later.
Translating the actual game data is much more urgent and could prove quite easy:
Normally when you design a large software application that is intended for many different language zones you carefully separate all the text data from the actual code and GUI. Speaking as a programmer I am pretty certain that Paradox has done this (anything else is ugly and makes translation a living hell).
However, the in-game text might not be stored in normal text files. Paradox could have used a proprietary data format or compiled the text data into the executable, or a DLL or similar. The script-like nature of the scenario files does imply the possibility of an open text format though.
Then there is the possibility of text in the graphics. From the screenshots I judge such text to be scarce or non-existent however.
The bottom line is that Paradox - having already translated the game into English - should have no trouble providing us with the necessary files. However, they might not want to do this for marketing reasons or security reasons (especially if the text resides in the executable).
If they will not do this I promise to examine the data files of the game as soon as I get it and attempt to translate the text from German to English (with the help of y'all I expect
). Should Paradox allow it, I will then put a patch up for download. I might even correct their mistake and make Sweden a playable nation for good measure. (Just kidding.
)
How does that sound?
