Since many of us have ordered the German version of EU it strikes me that Paradox could possibly give us the language resource files for English, Swedish etc. Presumably this would be a really simple patch, but I don't know if it would have some kind of negative marketing impact...

Another possibility (if the game text files are not encoded) is that we start on a translation project to produce a kind of unofficial patch.

What to you all say? Johan?

Beta Testers,

How many unique messages are there in the game? Would it be possible to play with a translation cheat sheet? For example: the phrase '. . . declares war on . . .' in German is '. . .ashdlgnarn krejgnl genrvglwr . . .'

If so, are any benevolent German players willing to make a cheat sheet?

A translator is great, but you also need to understand the syntax and context. I know that English to Spanish translation doesn't always make sense word for word.

For example I might think somebody was offering me 250 to end a war and instead they were demanding it.

A phrase translator would be more helpful.

I may still order it because the German EU user interface probably has a better user experience than other games (like Reach for the Stars) has in English.

I speak some german so if we are gonna start a translationproject then Im willing to help.
Anyone else willing to translate?

I ordered the German version, my knowledge of the German language is adequate (although I'm Dutch, not German), and yes, I'm willing to help out in case people have trouble understanding the german version.
From the info in this forum however, I gathered that the Official guide that goes with the game is over 200 pages. Translating that entirely is way over my head I'm afraid (would cost a lot of time, and it's like doing work that's already been done).
On the other hand, just a thought, maybe Paradox can be convinced that they can make some extra money by selling just the Game guide in English separately, untill the English version of the game is being released?
That way people that are desparate for the game but have a lacking command of German could order the german version in stead of waiting for the English release.
If there are enough takers (500+?) it would seem to be commercially feasible.
Johan? Patric?
