No Rossija is the correct form :) I was transalting myself through a Russian site with a transliterationscheme to find it out and the "R" at the end of the cyrillic name is an "ja" not an "ya". "ya" is only the English version, but not the official UN version. Now I just need to translate "Ottoman Empire" and my first official version should be ready.

I have found out what "Ottoman Empire" is in Turkish :) its "Osmanli Devleti". I also corrected some of the new added Arabian names.

I suppose that I can do my first official release tonight :) I only need some webspace..

Langue'doi, i suppose. At least in northern part. Basically, what is the ancestor of modern French. Same with all other languages, really.

About V and W in Russian. The point is that spelled V in English sounds like slavic W. So in Polish it's Moskwa, not Moskva. I suppose that Russian translation into Latin alphabet also uses W not V, as it's slavic language, too.

Btw, what province is Czernowitz in?

Get rid of Lódz. This city was founded in XIX century. Better make Wielkopolska's city Sieradz (or Lêczyca or Piotrkow, or even Sandomierz)
Those cities aren't in Wielkopolska really, but since we have Poznan province...

Ah, Poznan is Poznañ really.

You could also change Lwow to Lwów (Polish) or Lviv (Ukrainian)
(province was inhabited by Ruthenians, but city largest ethnic group was Poles, same situation as in Finland)

Krementjug into Kremenchuk.

@Maur13: Czernowitz is in Podolonia which belongs to Poland from the start in 1419, but is ruthanian und belongs to the area of Ukraine. I guess I renamed it with a Polish name because I did not found a Ruthanian name for it.

For Lódz :) I just looked into my atlas and saw that it is the largest city in the area of Wielkopolska. And I did not like the place of Gniezno.. it is in the Poznañ province :/ anyways thanks for the "ñ" of Poznañ :)

I changed Lwow to Lwów because the province is Polish in the game (there is enough time to change the nationalities later ;))

@Alavares: I keep it in Breton because 1. the province is Gaelic in the game. 2. it makes things look more interesting. 3. I bet that there were more Bretons around 1419.

Eh, Tschernowytz sound German for me:D
Actually, i'm troubled, because i don't know which city IRL it is...

Ok, i will list all i think.

Poznan (province)> Wielkopolska, city Poznañ
Wielkopolska (province)>(here comes big trouble. No appropriate name exists. In reality, it's split between three provinces)
Anyway, city could be Piotrków or Kalisz. Maybe call province after city then.
Mazovia> Mazowsze, city Warszawa
Krakow>Ma³opolska, city Kraków
Podlasia>Podlasie, city Lublin (though Lublin isn't in Podlasie, but...)
Galizien (who would call it such, it sounds German)>either Galicja or Ruœ Czerwona. City Lwów.
Podolia> Podole. Czernowitz, eeeeh. City should be ¯ytomierz, Bar, Cudnów, £uck, or Kamieniec Podolski (Polish names, i don't know Ukrainian)
Only the last is in Podole actually, but the province occupies territory which should be split into four provinces at least (and is much larger IRL than in game)
But ¯ytomierz is the best, IMHO.

Ah, and there is big trouble. Krementjug province. I suppose Krementjug is Krzemieniec, but in reality it's in Galizien province...

The best name for that province is Zaporo¿e (it's Polish, i can dig up Ukrainian name). City should be Sietch (Sicz in Polish)-not really city, but it was Cossack permanent encampment, and there were no cities actually.

As you can see, this are is total mess:rolleyes:

Ah, about £ódz (yes, first letter is different, too:D), i bet your map wasn't older than XIX century? Lots of cities changed.

Bit short of vowels. Should it by Missr for Egypt, at least? And where do the "ija"s come from? I found "Maghrib" for Morocco.

How about: http://geography.about.com/library/weekly/aa082399.htm

I think your Tukrmenistan is just a spelling mistake.

thanks for the source Pishtaco, but I bet this was written by an American :D I have my info from Arabian and Turkish sites, but I guess that I made some mistakes with the grammar.

The Ottoman Empire is not Turkmenistan! and it was (and is) really called "Osmanli Devleti"

Ottomanian = Osmanli in Turkish
Devleti = Empire or State in Turkish (Devlet in Arabian)

but I will take all the names I have not corrected yet and change them. The American translation is better then no translation, but sometimes it is wrong :)

as example: Russia = Rossiya (the official United Nations version is Rossija and this is what I want to use) or Spain = Espana (should be España)

edit: but it seems that you are right with Egypt = Misr. I will check the others. "ija" were grammatic mistakes I made. Sahara will stay Sahara .. but I have edited Marocco and Algiers, so check the list.

I have finished my homepage and you can now download both versions (EEP and ECP) at http://www.angelfire.com/empire/deserteur

The mod is now at version 0.234, which means that 234 names were changed until now :)
THANKS to anyone who helped and will help me with the mod!

p.s.: I have seen that the patch 1.04 for EU2 has been released, unfortunately the language mod is not yet compatible with it. but I will see what I can do about it.

Eh, Lithuania didn't moved. It's just that it's province, Samogitia is represented by southern Kurland in EU II.

By other changes you mean Kraków province? Well, i don't have any online source, but believe me, or ask any Pole on the board, it is called Ma³opolska...

And i had one source of Krementjug province, Ukrainian heraldry site, but it went down lately-but it is even today called Zaporozian oblast, or something like that. And i can found Krzemieñczuk (krementjug) city, but only from the XIX century onwards... So Sietch would be much more apppropriate name for city, and Zaporo¿e for province, if not exactly the city;)

Changes to provincial names of Wielkopolska and Poznañ, well i invented them, but as i said, it can't be done good, as Poznañ is the capital city of Wielkopolska...

I found Czernowitz city, it's called Czerniowce. Modern atlas, though, in historical it appears only in XIX century. Not to mention i'm not even sure if it's in Poland...
¯ytomierz is much better name.

Btw, why do you have two similar threads, it's very confusing:confused:

@ Alavares: I can do that when I have finished some more names and made the actual version compatible to 1.04 of EU2.

@ celedhring: These are Catalan names, I cannot import them into the mod now, maybe later I can think about creating a Catalan nationality, but now the nationalities for these provinces are French and Iberian, so I use the French and Iberian names.

@ Maur13: The example of Lithuania was related to the real world not the game. In the real world the country of Lithuania moved, as Poland moved too!

Krementjug to Zaporo¿e
Krakow (province) to Ma³opolska
Czernowitz to ¯ytomierz

these are the changes I have done. If I have forgotten something, let me know, because I have so much to do I cannot keep everything in my mind :)

DO NOT USE THE SECOND THREAD ANYMORE !!!

Deserteur, there's no such thing as Iberian names, as spanish, portuguese, galician and catalan names are lumped there altogether.

@ The Larch: I know you want "A Coruña" instead of only Coruña :) I will change the names of Coruña to "A Coruña" and those of roussillion and perpignan too. You are right, there was no real Iberian language AND there was no real French language as I have learned now, so I can rename rousillion and perpignan too :)

But what about Urgell?? Shall I rename it back to Girona or let it be Urgell (Seu d'Urgell)? Please only argument with reasons and not nationalism ;)

v0.235 IS NOW FULLY COMPATIBLE TO EU2 v1.04 !!!

Mmmm... no, there's nothing wrong to rename Girona "Urgell", I am just curious why you did it, as it wasn't wrong with the previous name.
