I have the same in my own town, trucks leave the highway and take the shortest path to go back to the highway. I'll give a try to create an Y on the exit ramp that go straigth to the higway again.
In your example the truck export goods (must be for commercial use, not industry afaik) from outside, so check if it unload when passing front of something in your town (load% must decrease), if not it's the case where there is no obvious reason :)

How the hell everybody succeed to create cool curved road grid when I only can create psychiatric super right angle road grid? :D Even my curved roads end in super parallelism right angled stuff :p

Ok for your exit system, a mix of highway/6 lanes-one way/2 lane one-way. Not so bad when your exit is on one way and end in an Y or in trident. It spread the traffic between lanes. But crossing before the spread may lead to issue if there is two way involved, has the traffic will need stop at some point in a road or the other.

I see, that really does happen. Maybe I'll start a new city.

About curved road grids, I used to have the same problem, then one day i forced myself to start using some erratic curved patterns, then it quickly becomes natural. Straight and aligned roads/zones are way too boring imo.

I load it up and it has freight on the offramp and it just loops around back on to the onramp and off the map.

I then notice no more freight comes into the city and just continues off the map as it should.

Are you using any mods or any workshop at all?

Only mods are Hard Mode and Daylight Classic. Also a custom LUT.

This truck is returning to a factory in town. However, some trucks that do not belong to a factory inside my borders seem to enter my town and go right out without any real purpose:

I don't get it...

I checked with traffic report tool (that provides numbers of vehicles as well as types and their routes) and could see a whole load of all sorts of vehicles taking that route into town then out again. Within few minutes though all traffic is proceeding straight on as you would expect.

I suspect that the route of those vehicles was decided when you were editing that junction? So the best possible route at that time was the one they are taking. Once the straight through route was "registered" by the route planning routine then subsequent routes would use the straight on one, which would explain why all subsequent traffic takes the route you would expect.

When editing roads you have to bear in mind that changes are not instantaneous, there's a lot of number crunching required to sort all the routes out that are affected, more so since the MT patch.

if you notice at around 1:20 a police car speeding towards the camera and over taking on the inside to take the slip road, demonstrating the new emergency service AI introduced in the new patch.

Check out this photo from one of my cities. I use Traffic Manager President Edition and Advanced Vehicle Options (I think is the name) to vary traffic. Traffic Manager for path finding (vehicles swith lanes more and AVO for varying top speeds, acceleration, and braking of each vehicle in the game. It's been my experience that the more variation I introduce with the fewest mods to the game the more 'organic' it becomes especially with traffic. These plus a lot of time and fine tuning to your needs will probably get you what you want or close to it.
