In my current game the previous pope sired an illegitimate daughter and died shortly after. She is now listed as an antipope and has an inheritable claim on the papacy. What are my options if she makes it to adulthood (currently age zero and in court at Rome, so she may not make it...)? Will getting her to my court make her my antipope? If I marry her to someone and they have children can the anti-papacy be inherited (or only a claim on the papal territories)? Am I right in thinking that there is no possible way for me to push her claim?

Love to hear your tips for making use of the situation if she manages to come of age.

Unless you really want her as an anti-pope, might be worth trying to get rid of her. I understand the Pope potentially producing illegitimate children, but the Papacy shouldn't be a heritable claim, and it seems silly that the church should lose 1.2% moral authority per year just because of it (although in some ways also makes sense :p). Still that's about 20% by the time she comes of age, enough to really screw up western europe with heresies, and even then you might not be able to make use of her.

Heh.

That's funny.

Probably a bug or something.

Really, really funny.

I had this with a landless female (adult) antipope with claims on the Papacy! I think I married her and the claim wasn't inheritable but I did get a free antipope for a while. Free divorces were always nice for their son.

"Mum, I don't like this girl any more. Can I have another divorce?"

Cool. A free antipope you say?

I can't bring myself to assassinate the poor little girl.

And perhaps I get a perverse pleasure from contemplating the possibility of a lowborn woman becoming pope... even if her name ain't Joan.

Unfortunately it is still 11th century and I'm not yet King (of Ireland), so it will probably not be possible to make this come true. Think I might marry her into the family and watch Christendom fall into heresy.

p.s. Having kept an eye on the little tyke for a while it appears that she was conceived in the last month of the previous pope's life - could be that he was struck down by God right in the middle of the act!
