Although the wiki provides nice information about the exact maths behind land warfare mechanics, it is still lacking some details that would be nice to know.
Especially, it would be nice to be able to design a "battle tester" code to help balancing modded units.

The information I can't find are:
  • Is it exact that divisions fighting against each other only "see" their average values and not the detail of their composition ?
  • How is damage calculated ? In the wiki they mention the use of two different dices for HP and moral but what about the maths ? Is it simply rdm number*(attack-defense) ?
  • It says "After each attack, the defending unit removes one defense" is it really for each attack or only for attacks that damaged the defender ? Later it also says "The damage done to unit's HP reduces the attack and defense stats." but by how much ? and are these changes to soft/hard/air attacks and defense/breakthrough or just one type ?
Thanks in advance !

Yes, once deployed on the map the division fight as a single unit ( although it stats are reduced based on battalion if it lacks only a specific equipment type for example ). Inside combat a division is effectively a single unit. And it's not averaged values for all stats, it depends on the stat type ( some are added, some are averaged, others use more complex formulas like the weighted average for armor/piercing ).

  • How is damage calculated ? In the wiki they mention the use of two different dices for HP and moral but what about the maths ? Is it simply rdm number*(attack-defense) ?

Very complex questions to answer, and I'm not sure it's even possible to answer accurately unless the developers provide their math.

Simplified though what happens should be roughly:
  • Damage is done separately to Strength and Org
  • Base Damage inflicted is based on Effective Soft Attacks * Targeted division Softness % + Effective Hard Attacks * Targeted division Hardness %
  • Armor advantage (for tanks that can't be pierced) is modifying the Damage.
  • Damage is then modified by targeted divisions Defense (for defending divisions) or Breakthrough (for attacking divisions), such that the parts of the damage that overshoot the defense/breakthrough is multiplied by 4.
  • After combat is concluded the HP stat is used to determine how much equipment was destroyed based on division lost strength % and the division equipment.

The effect is that smaller divisions take larger losses of equipment, since their defense/breakthrough stats are more easily exceeded, but on the other hand they have more total Org ( for same combat width ) allowing them to stay in combat for much longer when their defense/breakthrough are not exceeded.

Is it known how attack/defense is calculated in 1 vs 2+ scenario? I get how SA/HA works versus Defense/Breakthrough in 1vs1, but what if a division is attacked by a couple of divisions? Does it help to have, say, 600 defense if you're attacked with two divisions 300 SA each?

When multiple divisions fight one, they do so one after the other. Defense or breakthrough used in the first fight is still considered lost for the second one. In other words in your example 600 defense would still be enough to avoid having it exceeded (and getting 4x losses), but 500 defense would not have been enough and the second division would have inflicted greater losses than the first.

The outnumbered division would only return fire against one of those units facing it rather than against each. An item on which I am unclear is in such a two on one situation will the attacks of the outnumbered unit stay focused on the same division hour after hour or will they randomly get spread over time between the units it is facing. I believe it is the latter.
