Based on demo and the "review" from Quill18, I can only conclude that the land trade flow is not affected by the riots, battles, wars or conflicts in provinces placed along the trade route.
I might be totally wrong, but it seams that these "events" have no influence even on "the trade contribution" to trade nodes.
Compared to naval trade flow, where you can blockade, increase the trade power using your fleet, the land-only trade flow seem bullet proof?
Since the commerce is attracted to safe routes, wouldn't it be nice to have the possibility to steer the trade by provoking revolutions or wars along a land trade route, or in provinces close to trade nodes? Or this system is already in place and I don't yet understand it well enough?
