Since I didn't make it into the BETA myself, I just wanted some of the lucky guys to check if the following holds still true.

In the Development Diary #7 'Division Designer' on November 26th is a major bug in the production cost calculation. I know it was still Alpha, but I just want to make sure this bug isn't there anymore.

First of all there is also a minor bug which I mention here just for completion and further understanding. In the table on the left side the icons for IC and Manpower seem to be placed the wrong way around. So the left column should be Manpower and the right hand IC. [1]

So the costs for the Infantry and Armored Car Divisions are:

Manpower: 3.33
IC: 2.33
Buildtime: 95

[3]
Manpower: 1.67
IC: 5.33
Buildtime: 270

Since it's also a serial build of 4 Divisions [4], the complete build characteristica [5] is calculated as follows:
Manpower: 3.33 + 3.33 + 1.67 + 1.67 = 10.00
IC: 2.33 + 2.33 + 5.33 + 5.33 = 15.32
Buildtime: 270 + 270 + 270 + 270 = 1080


The problem is the brigade's different buildtimes. The cost of a single division in IC-Days (IC*buildtime) is 4136.40 (15.32*270). But the sum of the brigades' IC-Days is 3320.90 (2.33*95 + 2.33*95 + 5.33*270 + 5.33*270) and therefore 20% lower than the division's. To correct this, there are two options.

Either the IC cost of the division is reduced after 95 days, which would quite hard to implement and gives additional problems with serial runs (permanently changing IC needs).

The second possibility is to tune down the IC cost of the whole division, to compensate the longer production time of some brigades. In this case it would be 12.30 (3320.90/270). You could singlehandedly argue this by reduced equipment production, i.e. only one infantry rifle is produced per day instead of three.

So could one of the BETAs (or even one of the developers) please check and report this if necessary?

Somehow, I don't think you need to worry yourself about such details. PI and the beta testers, if they are anything like the rest of us who post here, are detail fanatics who go over such matters with a fine tooth comb - just as you did. Not only that, they probably will do so after a long and serious session within the organization over the values put in there in the first place.

As Johan noted in the DD's, these were only "placeholder" values and meant nothing. The game won't work without valid numbers in there. So don't worry yourself is my advice.

It's sort of like asking the auto dealership to be sure that all the parts are in the engine in your new car when you take delivery of it...you know they are going to be there, so why ask? :D

Its it alpha screenshot where the numbers mean nothing and i suggest you remove references to things only those who have been in betas should know.

Nothing he said was beta-based, it's all from dev diaries. That's perfectly acceptable.

Asking beta testers for anything, especially at this stage, is pretty much a non-starter if you ask me; furthermore, I would not want to encourage this poster or others to start peppering the betas on the boards with attempts to glean little tidbits out of them.
What beta will risk his status (not to mention possible litigation against him) just to satisfy someone's curiosity about a "bug" in meaningless alpha data entries in an alpha screenshot?
I don't want to see the betas driven away from here, since they may be able to participate in the forums in a constructive way that does not violate NDA's.

Well said. This thread is superfluous, sorry to say. Small matters like inconsistent IC cost for an alpha screenshot is not something that needs to be upset about, as it will be resolved. Good eye, though. Just bring it up without trying to get betas involved.

Well figure it like this. Sure, the Betas cannot TALK about it (not here, anyways) - but, that doesnt mean we cant attempt to contribute to the production of the game. They can listen to what we say, tell us nothing and resolve the matter (if it still exists) in their own beta forums.

Honestly, it's win-win. We get to help, and any potential bugs gets ironed out just that much faster.

That's exactly what I wanted. No BETA should actually give me an answer here, they should please just read and check it. And it's not about the numbers, it's all about the calculations, so it's possible they are still in there.

As mentioned already and dliberately inserted into the Dev Diaries to aavoid these kinds of threads, these numbers are simply place holders. Essentially they give us a start point to balance unit costs from and allow us to check to see if there are any bugs. So there is no need to panic.

Oh, agreed. I didn't claim this was a good thread, just that it wasn't breaking any rules that I could see. If you mean that he's getting special knowledge from past betas, it's possible I suppose, but I didn't see it.
