Listened to it, and it's better than EU3 and HoI2 (especially EU3). I'll do what I did for EU3 (with EU2's music) and toss the original soundtrack into Vicky 2. I like this soundtrack, but it lacks some of the same impact as actual period Romanticist music. Really, nothing beats nationalistic cymbal-crashing.

Can someone upload the soundtrack to Grooveshark? I've ordered the boxed version but don't want to wait for the soundtrack :D.

It's probably legal to do that. (dunno how it works, but it is legal to upload any music from "regular" artists there, so why not game sound tracks?)

I see. I guess I'll have to wait then :(.

I do wonder how Grooveshark manages to be legal... I mean, I don't think any artist (/record company) will like it when their music is on Grooveshark, as they don't get paid for it then. It puzzles me.

Sorry for the OT.

Just yesterday I listened to old CK soundtrack and the tracks like El Cid (which my usual nickname on other servers since like forever) or The Brotherhood of Cluny just made me think how cool will the CK2 soundtrack be. Andreas Waldetoft is very good at capturing given period music and so this should be something to look forward to :)

But please, why don't you tell us what you really think?

sure!
these milktoast derivative offerings aren't even a pale shadow of actual music from the 19th century. they're utterly devoid of either harmonic or structural interest and completely lack any glimmer of the inventiveness and "passion" of the "real" composers.

:)

edit: i realize i'm being offensive and snobbish here, so apologies for that to all, but god i hate bad music, especially when it's paraded around as though it were some substitute for that which is truly great.

Very much a minority opinion around these parts...

I for one think the music is very good overall. It sounds fine and fit it's role as background music when you play. As have been said previously, if "real" music from the era had been used that would probably distract you from playing the game.

"Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth."

Well, it's rather unlikely that it's the truth if you're just one guy aint it?

EDIT: and tbh, i can't think of this as "bad" music, not saying it's as good as the beethoven or the rest of the composers, but seriously, calling it bad is taking it too far, especially considering it's a sound track for a game -.-

castorp, I mean this sincerely, I am not dismissing you with a "go mod it so that we can ignore your mod and you both" kind of backhanded helpfulness. It's very easy to change the background music; the game just randomly selects it from a folder. So if you have musical suggestions or will put together a list of authentic Victorian music, I'd like them or it so that I could collect it before V2's launch.

Amazon MP3 has "The 99 Most Essential [Famous Composer] Masterpieces" collections for 6 USD, so you can also help solve anyone's irritation with repeating music.

A/ I claimed he is good at capturing the spirit of that time and not creating his own masterpieces that will be alive after more then a century (how many man are even capable of that?)

B/ I already said that soundtracks for games need to be a bit boring and without strong themes, otherwise they will become annoying after few hours.
