Fully support doing so, although it's worth pointing out that the European name for Lake Superior was devised during the games time period, where as Lake Victoria wasn't even discovered until after the games time period

It also gets more grating with Mare Nostrum which adds a bunch of countries surrounding this lake. There has to be at least one local name for the lake.

There are several names listed on Wikipedia that could work for various cultures. An Arab mapmaker found his way to the lake in the early 1160's, and the local Bantu speaking people had several names. Perhaps the first European power to colonize/ discover the lake should give its current rulers name to the lake.

I cant read arabic, but it appers he labled a lakes at the southern tips of the Nile river. Perhaps Muslim/ Arabic cultures could use that name for the lake?

Nalubaale is listed, but i cant see any definition of the word. Perhaps it is the name of someone?

When adding foreign province names, should I only look at countries that actually owned that area, or any foreign country that had a different name for a place?

Considering that there are dynamic French and Spanish names for most of Germany, I'd say the latter.

Making automatic renaming of undiscovered (at least undiscovered by any Muslim+ tech nations) uncolonized provinces and bodies of water based on monarch and religious figure names would definitely be interesting. It would make exploration a bit more fun and rewarding, at the very least.

I'd take "Ooh, I found Juan Rock!" over "oh, there's Buffalo..." every campaign.

The Label in both Arabic and German translates to "the biggest swamp/lake" with two "smaller swamps/lake" on either side
