I don't think its a bug and maybe other people have experienced it too. I don't recall it existing prior to Deus Vult, but I notice it now. At the end of every month, the game lags up for a couple of seconds before jumping over to next month. It never did that before in regular Crusader Kings. Anyone else have this problem or even better, found a way to fix it?

Same things exists in EU3 form what I've noticed when using that Magna Mundi map. I'm using the DVIP for Crusader Kings, but I can't believe that would be the cause........ or could it?

This happens to me too. I figure it's the result of lots of processing involving events that check every month.

Damn, I'm on a quad core with 4 gigs of ram, I can only imagine what its like on something lesser. >shudders< That or I'm vastly over estimating my machine..... which is possible too........

I am pretty sure the game can't take advantage of multi-core processors, actually not sure if any current P'dox games can.

The end of month lag is when the game purges dead characters. In CK the save game files would eventually become huge, and the game would lag in general as many events check on all characters in the game, both dead and alive. So in DV it "cleans house" every month, which is kinda annoying, but you'll get used to it. The CK engine is older than any multi-core processor (I think) so it simply cannot use that.

Hopefully CK2 will be able to do that ;)

I feel that the lag isn't that bad, I mean... It's only a slight 'hop' than anything else, and it saves speed throughout the game. :p

Actually I believe all Paradox games can use multi-cores somewhat, mainly because they use external mp3 decoding which should in any good OS offloaded to another core...

At the beginning of the game it's not that much as already mentioned 1 - 3 seconds, however as the game last longer, after two or three century it is annoyingly longer. Also since I'm afraid of crash I do autosave every year, now that’s stop game enough for a nap:(

Unfortunately it is needed.

Before DV, CK games often became unplayable after ~1300 because of the immense size of the save file. You had to use an external pruner to keep it playable.
DV has eliminated the need for that, but the price you pay is a little wait every year.

I'm on a Quad too, and I'm aware DV uses only one core.
What I find strange: I frequently render video in background, which utilizes all four cores at 100%. When playing DV at the same time, I feel no difference at all. The monthly lag isn't any longer when the entire cpu belongs to another program, the lag isn't any shorter when DV has the cpu all for itself.

The monthly lag doesn't bother me that much. What really drives me mad is the frozen cursor during those three seconds. That makes every end of month feel like a crash.

Paradox games are definitely not written to optimize system performance. It may be inherent in the way their games work but somehow I think they could tweak their games *A LOT* if they devoted time and people to it...
