It could be helpful if someone would upload a super-cpu-heavy savegame. Maybe we are doing something differently here so it doesn't slow down so much. Note that if you have as much people on the screen as in the picture above you may be limited by GPU.

You probably mean CPU instead of GPU because mine is more bored than my CPU. Here you go...

Yes, on normal game speed i get 20-70 fps depending on how much stuff is on the screen. The fastest mode is quite slow (although it wasn't even designed to be playable, just to skip time faster).

Then some of my Hardware/Driver Software is incompatible with the game :( Please try to find out what and integrate it into a patch.

with 17 it started lagging a little bit but with the speed of x2 it was still playable. with version 19 even x2 is too laggy.
In the settings I turned off all the check boxes and and minimized all the other settings.

and this the info about my gfx card:

Not sure if this helps, but i have had a lag about 2 or 3 times, and i found that saving the game then exiting and restarting the program fixes the problem. The game appears to be running fast again

Thanks for the suggestion; however, restarting has no effect, still laggy.

I guess the best answer can be given by CO.

That really sounds like you would have severe memory leak issues. When I bought myself CitiesXL2010 I had experienced similar errors, rendering the game unplayable for me.

But luckily, CiM works quite well. The game only starts lagging slightly on larger maps with more than 40 lines and more severely on XL maps with more than 40 lines. And in fast forward, of course.

Does anyone of you know if having more RAM would help a bit? And what about the CPUs, a the moment I have an Athlon II Triple Core with 3,2 Ghz (Overclocked) - would a real Dual-Core Design (like Athlon 64) work better?

Iggydarsa: Your graphic card is just at the minimum requirements so very good performance is not expected. However the patches shouldn't affect the framerate so if you are using any mods try disabling them.
Monolith: To get the best performance with CIM it's most optimal to have a dual core cpu with high clock frequency. The amount of RAM probably doesn't make any difference (unless it's very low).

It is dissapointing to hear that it is at minimum... 3 years ago it was top notch and i bought it purely for gaming... damn technology! :)

Same here.

C'mon, i'm running the game on a laptop and the framerate is bad from the start (it's usable in normal speed), but it doesn't get much worse on my medium map even with 3x lines...So 10-15 lines didn't decrease performance for me...

What is high CPU clock really? On the first map of campaign (just made trams), i am getting about 15 fps in normal speed on this rig :
Intel C2Q Q9450 @ 2.66GHz, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460, Windows Vista Ultimate SP2

I think they should decrease the animations/quality for the pedestrians. When you have a lot of them at the stations, and you have a lot of stations, the game grinds to a halt.

inb4 some CIM apologist with "LOL DONT BUILD STATIONS N00B".

I can agree to that. Building stations in such game. Total noobishness :)...
/sarcasm off

I think it would be really nice to do 3 steps
1) Use GPU more as in general it's more powerful than CPU. Load of my GPU with CiM on is like 30% if much.
2) 64-bit client. Come on, a lot of people have 64-bit system so why not to put it to some use...
3) Quad-core support. We have CPU heavy game here but it uses only 2 cores.
