A compromise could be to have key moments voice acted and the rest of the game be text only. This is the way it was done back in the day in games like Fallout and Planescape Torment.
I totally agree with this.

Some RPGs need more voice acting to be immersive. Personally, I think Runemaster doesn't.

I believe voice acting works better with games which the camera view is set closer to your character/NPCs/environment.
