Sense the other thread seems to have been hijacked by real world political discussion i thought i start a new one so pleas keep this one about the game.

Currently there are four special living standards with prerequisites, Academic Privilege for materialists, Utopian Abundance for egalitarian, Shared Burden for Shared Burden and Stratified Economy for authoritarian.Know some had hoped for Shared Burden being an alternative for the remaining ethics without one. But it ended up being another alternative for just egalitarian. One can argue that slaves full the same purpose for xenophobes so the once withe out alternatives are militarist pacifist spiritualist and xenophile. Suggestions from the previous thread being my own idea of some kind of ascetic standard and another i saw being some kind of enforced equal distribution. Possible balance, less upkeep for all strata with no happiness bonus and possibly a malus for leaders?

Adding more living standards to the game will probably not be anything game changing but it would be a nice fluff option to have.

I would like some that relates to each type of government that you have.

For oligarch or imperial one where the rulers have a lot more upkeep, political power, and happiness. Everyone else has less upkeep and political power, but also only -50% happiness. this could help "simulate" a feudal like goverment structure.

A psionic living standard would be neat. Some kind of ascetism
I like this. We should also get some species/trait related standards. For example, ascended synths and psionics should get some kind of "Ascended Beings" living standard that is powerful and satisfying to achieved "perfection".

The thing is, there aren't really many variations between "highly stratified" and "highly unstratified". Because of this, I think if more citizen rights were to be introduced they should ideally make more use of modifiers.

One interesting thing which would (I believe) actually be quite easy to do would be that in a Citizen Republic all species with citizen rights are locked into a special "citizen service" living standard which makes them prioritise soldier jobs (like how academic privilege pops prioritise becoming researchers). That could be pretty funny, but also reflects the lore that in this society joining the military is required for entry into politics or the civil service.

I like the religious asceticism idea too. One way it could work would be to be fairly mediocre on its own, but then apply a modifier which reduces the consumption of spiritualist pops. That way, it rewards you for keeping your population spiritualist.

It would be cool for Militarists to have a Shared Hardship feature, either as a living standard or a civic, that dropped their consumer goods requirements while at war.

We need more like these 2.. like alot more.. and more that focus on government types in general.. Right now governments in general feel super lack luster and empty.

So the equivalent of Shared Burden for egalitarian but an alternative for authoritatain?

I do have to say that it is kind of silly how many people here seem to be perpetually waiting to derail threads into Facebook-esque comment chains about the fascists/communists/reactionaries/triggered libtards/Trumptards/whoever has attracted ire recently.

1.5/Banks introducing actual living standards was a huge step forward but we are at a point where I agree that we could come back to it and make it into a richer system that better reflects different types of societies.

Yea, like the flip of it. I don't always want to have my people as slaves, just something that shows that the leaders/rulers are really the only important people in my Empire.

Authoritarians already have a unique living standard called stratified society which does just that. It gives very low expenditure to the lower classes and also means they have very little political power. It suits the typical authoritarian playstyle really well, even if you don't use slaves.

The stratified society one is pretty spartan for lower class POPs already. Worker POPs under stratified already receive 0.1 consumer goods compared to the 1.0 of rulers and the 0 for slaves.

Going any lower would be basically slavery anyway.
