Every time I play Rome I get stuck because I have no CB´s on other countries.

In EU3 there would always be ways to get a CB, 4 that I can think of:
* From events
* Using a spy to get a core
* Claiming a throne
* Warning a country

But in Rome there seems that there is no way at all to activly get a CB. In the end I allways declare war without CB - get a -2 stability hit and have to spend loads of money to get it back up. Is that the way it was intended to be played?

The only ways are kinda far fetched like; suduce a govenour and make the country suduce it back - you will get a CB... yea right..

Do you have 1.2 installed?
Just send a diplomat to cause trouble in that country, sooner or later they will capture or kill him and you will get your CB. Since 1.2 it is quite easy to get a CB.

In my experience, sooner or later the AI will send assassins to you and then you get a CB when you catch them (1.2).

It's really really really easy to get a CB in this game, I never need to declare war without it and take the stability hit.

Send some of your disloyal incompetent fools to assasinate the enemy's king, eventually they will catch one and execute him, giving you the excuse to go to war that you are looking for.

Other ways to do it that require more luck are, if they are sending assassins against you who succeed in their mission but you catch them, you also get a CB against them.

There is also an event that fires every once in blue moon about a border dispute or something like that, it gives you a core on an enemy province, which is also an automatic CB.

Make sure every war you get into is one that counts. If you're trying to gobble up minors then focus your efforts for gaining a CB on the one with the most allies. If you're rome you shouldn't have trouble taking on 5 or 6 tribal nations at once, so you can get 6 wars for the price of one.

Also if you anticipate having to eat the -2 stability cost, don't bump yourself up over +1. +2 costs a lot more than +1. You're better off declaring, going to -1, then stabbing pigs up to 0 immediately. Depending on your income and any extortion you can do against the Gauls, you should have enough to go back to +1 after the 12 months between sacrifices has passed.

I wish there were more random events that led to Casus Belli. It would fit with the time period, when Rome was at war every 10 years.

Well, I've been toying with some myself ^_^ ... But I'll need to get some play results from v .11 on how my new diplomacy events are working, before I do anything more. They add a few CBs at low relations with hostile factions in control, and I'd not want to swamp the world with war :) .

Keep sending some idiot with 80% or greater loyalty to assassinate the enemy's king. Sooner or later, he'll get caught and executed giving you a CB. If he somehow succeeds, its just more trouble for your enemy and you can just send him again.

Sending your most loyal dork to 'assassinate' just to get a CB is bloody stupid.

Since when did a country send in Mr. Magoo as an assassin?
Actually, you do not send Mr. Magoo as an assassin. You send him to provoke a diplomatic incident.

I agree with Krasny. This game is idiotic. Sending assassins so you could get a CB? Right. I hoped for a game where I could start in the beginning (Pyrrhian War) and get cores according to Rome's historical conquests. Is that too much to ask for, Paradox? A pity they wasted such a good work on the map.

Actually, you do not send Mr. Magoo as an assassin. You send him to provoke a diplomatic incident.

It's also a great way of disposing of disloyal characters.

Seriously the assassination system needs a major overhaul.

1. Assassins should lower relations, but not give CBs.

2. Only characters with the assassin trait should agree to go on missions.

3. A discovered assassin should lower stablility and the rulers popularity. People don't like wars as a rule and provoking one would cause discontent.

4. Assassination of major figures, such as kings should lower stability of the target nation. But rulers should be very well protected.

5. CBs should be awarded through events, such as border disputes.

I only agree on 2 and 3.

On another hand, if your ruler is assassinated and you do not catch the assassin. You should get somes kind of universal cassus belli for one year over every nation with -200 in relations. "You are either with us or against us" ;)

Really the problem is not the assassin system so much as it is the fact that there aren't enough different ways to get a CB. The event that gives you a core rarely fires, and I don't understand why they thought that the "proclaim guarantee" and "send warning" system from EU3 were not suitable for Rome.
