I am glad to see the government take heed of the published opposition economic plan and act accordingly, albeit with more bureaucracy and general thinking. One would wonder why there is an opposition government at all if it can push through its desires with such ease.;)

But we are not the USA army or the the US marine Corps. 6 months is maybe enough for some basic trained message man or courier but for you cant train any specialities in 6 months. With training the men are prepared for situations even though you can never be ready enough and there are always suprises in war. This is what i propose;
Courier? I think you have some misunderstandings over the armed forces.

Basic training period for all should be 8 weeks. In this period the basic fighting skills, shooting and other basic skills are trained. If started from the start of the year from January then the basic training would be from January to February. In the 7 week some men chosen for special training like Military Police would be moved to the respective branch to start their training.
8 weeks is the US Army basic training. As for choosing, I have a simpler system. We let the men tell us what job they want.

Then there would be the special training period of of 9 weeks. In this time all the special branches that the men are chosen for receive their specialized training.
Different specializations need different amounts of time. It makes no sense to spend 9 weeks training a truck driver and a underwater demolitions expert will need longer.

The NCO training starts at the smae time as the Special training for those chosen for NCO training and they start their schooling and training that lasts fort 7 plus 9 weeks.

From those NCOs some are chosen for RO training that last for
14 weeks.

After the 9 weeks of Special training starts the Unit training period that lasts for 9 weeks for those serving 6 months. This period concentrates in the unit organization and their ability to work.
Huh... No. I am beginning to think you have little to no experience in any armed forces with combat experience. Again NCOs will be chosen from the ranks of veterans and sent to a leadership school. It won't take months, because by the time they get to the school they'll have been in for at least 2 years and learned what they need to know under the experience of their own NCO leaders.

I must state that I find the Opposition Government plan fanciful, wasteful and bloated.

Comments on current foreign policy

On French Africa

The Opposition rejoice that steps are being taken toward reconciliation and reunification. The Opposition want to remind the government that the leaders of National France are to be considered true patriots and treated that way. Further the Opposition is glad that the government has plans for allowing the African leadership to stay in charge, but wonder why not more concrete plans for Afican autonomy within a unified France has been presented.

Even if this does'nt have to do with foreign policy directly it need to be commented on. The consfication of property of other Frenchmen, just because they have moved from one part of France to another sounds very dubious. The rights and liberities of all cititzens of France must be respected. The Opposition naturally worries that that would be just the first wave of Communist consfiscation of the property of free French cititzens.

On other affairs

Interestingly two of the nations that the government want to approach are members of the Internationale: Britain and India, which make one wonder the government's true intentions in this matter. More importantly Italy and Spain will be approached, and the Opposition wonder what the government is going to do to stabilize the situation in our neighbouring countries. The Opposition rejoice the steps by the government to support the legitimate Italian government in exchange for lost territory. The Opposition also want to remind the government that this was one of the points in the Opposition foreign policy plan. Terrorists threaten both Rome and Madrid, and it's imperative that France stop the Internationale from getting a strong foothold in these countries. The Opposition wonders what the government is going to do to defuse the situation in Spain.

While selling guns to China indeed could be a lucrative business the Opposition is of the opinion that France should stay out of the Asian conflict altogether. Meddling in Asian could only lead to disastrous results. France has more important tasks to do, like for example aiding our neighbours: Italy and Spain.

Courier? I think you have some misunderstandings over the armed forces.
Courier, messenger or what ever you want to call those who deliver letters and keep account of the companies accounts, number of weapons and men.

Actually truck drivers need training as they are dealing with the supply and they need to also know how to hid the trucks from air planes. Also keeping the men longer in service we have allways men ready to be deployed to the front if needed. The Underwater Demilitions Expert should be trained as part of the navy.

You know that the veterans also run out and they just aren't enough for the needs of the army. The armed service should be mandatory for all males age of 18. Every year two batch of young men should arrive to serve, one in January and other in July.

Right... That has nothing to do with basic training.

The army's need should come first. We of course ask them what they would like to be and then we make decisions based on those polls. And we are not in the USA now, we are in France.
While the army's needs should come first, I should point out at no point have I suggested not meeting the army's need. If we have to many armor specialists, we simply tell them to pick something else.

Actually truck drivers need training as they are dealing with the supply and they need to also know how to hid the trucks from air planes. Also keeping the men longer in service we have allways men ready to be deployed to the front if needed. The Underwater Demilitions Expert should be trained as part of the navy.
You miss the point. I never said we shouldn't train truck drivers, I only said it wouldn't take 9 weeks to train them in their duties. Your reply on Underwater Demolitions Experts also misses the point by a wide margin. Different jobs will take different training times.

We have little combat experience to no combat experience and new NCOs need to be trained too as the old NCOs are getting old. You know that the veterans also run out and they just aren't enough for the needs of the army. The armed service should be mandatory for all males age of 18. Every year two batch of young men should arrive to serve, one in January and other in July.
But they're not dead yet. There is still time for them to pass on their institutional knowledge and training to the next generation. Not to mention there are the Jr. NCOs they have already trained. Also a draft creates as many problems as it solves. Also, for someone who is screaming about the government taking control, you're pretty quick to demand the government take control of every male over 18.

I am running a military tasked with the job of defending France! I am not a babysitter nor is it the military's job to teach the young how to put up with old men. I suggest gentlemen, if you wish the young men of France to learn manners, you take the teaching of them on yourselves as well as displaying some manners of your own for a change.

The French Army as long as I run it teaches it's solders how to fight, not how to suck up. It is a war fighting organization, not a national babysitting service.

The defence of our Republic comes first. All French cititzens have a duty to defend our Republic. Do I need to remind you that France is threatened by the Kaiser and the Internationale, two formidable forces. If France is to be able to defend herself when these powers attack, every French cititzen must be prepared to defend the nation.

It was during the Revolution, that mandatory military service was introuduced, and it is a very French tradition that need to be preserved.

And how well did that tradition work for us in the last war again?

Yes, the defense of the Republic comes first! Which is why I am baffled, confused, discombobulated even at your desire to turn our army into a national school for deportment.

I need fighters, hot blooded young Frenchmen who are ready to learn to fight and kill in the name of La Belle De France. You would saddle me with every sniveling schoolboy and call it an army.

Let me give you a French response.

NON!

An Army For France, Not A Boarding School.

To the Kasier and the German Reich.

I regret to inform your nation that the French people in times of Economic failure and political distrest, can not repay war reperations that were imposed onto this Government by the Reich for the past Great War. Reasons as follow.

1. The Global Depression has hurt France to the point were our Economy can no longer support itself and has led to massive unemployment and declining monetary support. With this we can no longer pay the Reich without printing more worthless money and losing resources we use to run the factories that produce the wealth. Wealth in which we have paid your nation in the past.

2. This Depression is fueling radical elements in public that wish to topple the Government. These many and well supported radical groups see the Government as weak for still paying War Reperations in times where many French children starve in the streets of Paris. The image of starvation and homelessness has led to an embitterment in the French people that is not healthy to a peaceful relationship with Germany.

3. If these Radical groups, including Bonapartists and Pro-Catholics launch a civil war or control the French Cabinet, they will embark on a crusade agaisnt Germany which they see as the enemy of France. There leaders speak of how they shall overthrow us and impose strict Military Rule so as to ready the people to fight your Highness.

4. A Radical Government will toss away the Treaty of Orleans without cause and destablize the peace of Europe and the German people themselves. Peace is what both France and Germany need to recover and eventually benefit from this Economic Crisis.

5. This Government wishes to preserve peace in Europe and end radicalism that threatens both nations. Ending War Reperations will help us achieve that. It will restore honor onto this Government and make the Kasier a man of the people and a friend of France, for forgiving past wars waged agaisnt your Reich.

6. The sooner we help our economy, the sooner your economy shall recover from the Berlin Stock Market Crisis as well.

With Honor
Iceman2508, President of the People's Republic of France

From Herr Laurence Von Geyte, Field Marshall of the glorious Kaiserreich and foreign emissary to the People's Republic of France
Hahahahahaahahahah
Hahahahahahahaha
Hahahahahahaaaaahahahaa
no.

The Kaiserreich does not care if your unstable and failing economy is too incapable to pay simple reparation sums each month. Should we remind you of your CRUSHING defeat in the Great War, a war of agression started by none other than you French and you French alone? You are simply getting what you deserve.

Economic crisis fueling radical elements? And you, as a vile Communist crowned emperor of all France, have the nerve to come tell us this? There are no radical elements in France; the radical elements are called the legitimate government. You people sicken me.

The Kaiserreich has never, does not, and will never strike deals with vile communists! You will pay - or face the consequences

And the next time you adress our Glorious Kaiser, make sure you spell his title right - This is a GRAVE insult to all subjects of the Kaiserreich

Yours Truly
Von Geyte

(*Ingame: Poor judgement thinking the KR would bend that easily. Remember that Laurence is a hardcore mother- and Germany is an ultra-rightwing country. Striking deals with them as a state that proudly calls itself a People's Republic is out of the question.

- Intelligence reports Germany, Ukraine, Baltic States have begun expanding their armed forces. German economy grows increasingly unstable due to the sudden surge in military expenditures
- Relations between France and Germany have worsened: Abysmal*)

From the dawn of time draft has been an instrumental tool of democracy (greek city states to our beloved revolution). Turning the army into an elitist and small branch of thugs bent on fulfilling the selfish desires of the government, as opposed to the defense and betterment of the french people, is criminal.
So it now democratic to force men to serve in the military? And now any man who volunteers to defend his nation of his own free will is a thug. Is 2+2=5? Is light become dark and dark become light?

For excuse me, I thought free will was the very foundation of democracy! I believed, perhaps wrongly it was free will that drove the Republic! The will of free men who are not owned by their government like serfs to be forced to fight wars of imperialist aggression.

So it is criminal now to give men freedom and virtue to treat them as sheep and demand they serve as their overlords see fit for that is what you would be. Overlords, directing and controlling without care for the men below you.

So be it then. I will not build an army of sheep. Your demand for the draft is built on fear! You are afraid and lack trust in the men of France. You believe they will not fight unless driven to it like slaves. I say in the chest of the French beat the hearts of Lions and they will come to the Army without the need of the chain or threat of jail. I will trust in the men of our great Republic to see the need of their nation and to act freely with valor and determination!

We have no need of your slave troops, we have free men! Free and virtuous men you would brand as thugs for being willing to defend you. In such an act you show the world that you do not trust in free men bearing arms... To your shame.

But it comes to this. While I am minister of defense the army will not run as a boarding school. It will not use slave troops. It will be war fighting organization of free men brought forward of their own free will and if you don't like it, try and get me fired!

Well, Iceman calling himself Communist Dictator of France certainly didn't help in the negotiations with Germany. When are they going to learn that the People's Republic of France don't exist as long as we in the Opposition is alive and kicking. If you want to turn France to Russia, you'll have to do like the Russians and kill all us stubborn reactionaries, I guess.

The time needed to train a full infantry division is roughly 3 months. We are not training special forces or marines, we are training infantry. In regards to NCO's we have 14 active divisions worth and many more who have retired available to train NCOs and as these troops are not going to be deployed upon completion of training but more likely would 9 months afterwards then we shall also have a competent officer corp well before any of them actually see the field of battle.

As to the draft it shall still exist in times of dire need, however we cannot afford to bring that into affect now due to worsening relations with Germany due an ill-calculated thrust by the President. This mechanic shall still exit in terms of war but in times of peace we shall not be using it in regards to the armed forces as at last count Germany had nearly 1,800,000 men under arms and even your own military plan talk of an army just half of that, flagrantly breaking the treaty again will get us nowhere except occupation by the Germans. As was the aim of the two bills published the aim is to modernise France back to the standard of a forerunner in European technology and rebuild its once very strong economy, only then, due to the German Economic instability shall we be able to ascend to the world stage once again.

Your view of a nation and the duties of it's people are horribly misguided, it appears. It is the patriotic duty of a frenchman to defend his land, not a notion of slavery. Apprently you prefer that the average Jacque would sit back and enjoy life while the critically undermanned and outnumbered standing army gets crushed despite all its professionalism? Or am I mistaken?

With free will comes responsibility to defend the institution providing this luxury. What you are advocating is anarchism, a rather shocking revelation from our leader of the armed forces. If such views and arguments keep being brought up by the man who is supposed to provide safety to the 40 million men and women of this land, then I expect swift action from our president Iceman. Namely sacking of this dangerous element in his government which has been of rather questionable value already. Especially seeing how quickly the presidents decisions (although commendable and brave) will lead to war with the strongest military power near our borders. Please, Minister of Defense, take back your statements post haste and reaffirm your allegiance to the people of France rather than your own desires of a paradise army ready to defend the Bastille against the men who elected you instead of liberating our brethren in Alsace-Lorraine (as seems to the the intent of president Iceman)

It seems your party-mate The War Monger has a somewhat more realistic view of the situation. Please follow your ideological leader rather than your own ego.

It's clear that the current President of the Republic have no skills in diplomacy at all. He boasted about himself being Communist to the nation that is the strongest adversary of Communism on the Continent. He made it sound like he had already dissolved the Republic and announced a Communist Dictatorship. You don't do that when you're trying to get the German Reich to make concessions. The current crisis could have been avoided by monsieur Iceman calling himself the President of the Republic of France, not the People's Republic. He practically made it sound like France is a member of the Internationale or something, which clearly France IS NOT. The irony is this crisis could have been avoided, if the President had allowed Bearded Hoplite, our Jacobin Foreign Minister to handle this issue. The Germans would much easier have listened to someone who's NOT a Communist.

It is evident that the current President is incompetent and therefor I call for his immidiate resignation. The Socialists and the other parties in the coalition must have more competent men than him to lead our nation.

Right... That has nothing to do with basic training.
Did i say it does? No. You looked like you don't know what courier is so i explained it to you, there are those in the armies, there has always been and there will always be.

While the army's needs should come first, I should point out at no point have I suggested not meeting the army's need. If we have to many armor specialists, we simply tell them to pick something else.
That just doesn't work, as we need to make sure that the persons who are positioned to different positions are suitable for that. It is easier to make the choice before they are positioned as changing them after that creates too much paper work.

You miss the point. I never said we shouldn't train truck drivers, I only said it wouldn't take 9 weeks to train them in their duties. Your reply on Underwater Demolitions Experts also misses the point by a wide margin. Different jobs will take different training times.
The whole period they serve is training, the basic skills for the drivers might be teached in few weeks but that doesn't make them good drivers. Of course some jobs have different training times but in 9 weeks the basic skills are learned and after that it is more training to make your skills better.

You miss the point, the old NCOs train the new NCOs and every year we get new NCOs and there is never enough .
