There should be a way to turn off the L-Cluster. It's not like L-Clusters are an essential part of the real universe so the fact that we are forced to play with them on is confusing in the first place. I have actually been forced to turn off the Distant Stars DLC because I find it so annoying, which is unfortunate because I would really like to play with the other things introduced in this pack without having to install a mod to remove them. Nearly every time I play a game with the L-Cluster, an AI empire opens it too early and there are almost always gray tempest on the other side. This almost immediately ruins the game after I had invested so much time already. Not only that but the fact that enemy empires are essentially able to invade you from anywhere there is an L-Gate is really frustrating.

In the last 2 or 3 patches, I haven't seen the AI open up the L-Cluster at all.
I was the one who needed to open it.

At any rate, When you hear an AI empire is about to open it.
Just make sure you have 2 or 3 battleship fleets up and running.
Should the grey tempest pop out, clear them out of your territory and then park those fleets in Terminal Egress.

"just have two or three battleship fleets"

*looks at his dear friend who is researching cruisers around the time the gray tempest is opened up by the AI and has a handful of 2-3K corvette/destroyer fleets in total vs 40K fleets from three nearby L-gates.*

Yeah.. I agree, two or three battleship fleets should totally do it...

This is exactly the problem though. The AI is rarely ever ready to fight them so they all get crushed. I don't want to be their babysitter. Not only that but this doesn't really address the other problem I have which is that I don't want enemy fleets using them to teleport around the universe. I want fleets to have to travel without the L-Gates even being an option. I wish there was a way to change the number of L-Gates like the options for FEs, MEs, wormholes, etc.

The means of closing the L-Gate to Terminal Egress if you control it would be nice, though I do then wonder if it would encourage people to Turtle up in there, sending forces out with no way of getting in to stop them.

I'd be happy if we had a means of having the defensive starbases we all inevitably build in TE actually engage fleets which route through the place then immediately out again, without requiring a fleet to camp at the gate to prevent that - a tactic which often results in the destruction of the fleet without the Starbase enggaging at all.

The real issue is the AI typically isn't prepared to deal with the 25-30k fleets. But in my latest game the AI is doing much better with it's fleets.

But yeah, realistically you should be pumping out Bships by the time the AI is opening the L-Gates.

Yes, since 3.2.x or 3.3.2, when L-Gates don't open too soon, Gray Tempest wreaks havoc in the galaxy, as intended indeed, but AI advanced empires manage to fight back.

Once player can get battleships to complement the Fleet (full BB fleets are not required), then parking into Egress Terminal allows to control the invasion (in my case 2x 20K fleets). I don't know if it's due to a bug, but usually (now) 3x40K Gray Tempest reinforcements will split in one fleet flying by gravity well before heading to the starbase, and two fleets directly heading to L-Gate, one of them sometimes returning after a few months. This allows player to destroy these fleets one to one, and let at least one of them bugging the other empires. Due to a various combat "bugs", Gray Tempest capital ships will spend their first rays of death on corvettes, allowing your cruisers and few battleships to stay alive. Also, nanite strikecraft will target your flak escort destroyers, letting other ships to kill their interdictors. Losses are minimal, and nothing that you can't replace between two reinforcement waves.

These two 20K fleets are also enough to clear one or two systems between two reinforcements. When more battleships are available (if you don't like to win with heavy losses), then you can end the menace at will.

Usually, once it's no more useful to keep letting Gray Tempests enter the galaxy, that is after you could secure most of those territories around L-Gates, should this be your agenda, and you have not enough fleets to repel one Great Tempest at each controlled gate, then it's time to end the menace. And don't forget to close borders to any empire sending a (constructor) ship into L-Cluster, all the time you survey and claim those systems.

solid qol idea for select ppl. consider it upvoted and liked. you can significanly delay the lcluster by disabling the clue tech if you're interested as well.

I generally want L-Gates on but the option to turn them off would help in some games.

Not getting involved in the argument, know what to do in the event of the Grey Tempest getting out, etcetera...

How can 10 people upvote a suggestion for a feature that already exists in the game?

Was the thread created before or after the release of the feature?
