I'd like to start a game up with good ol' Kurland, but sadly historically (and in-game) they aren't around until the 1560s, by which point the New World is already swamped and nations have already established themselves in the various corners of the world. Personally, I'd like to take the OPM and see if I can't guide the Old Prussians to a destiny a little more open-ended.

How would I go about having them select-able at the start of the game? Sadly, can't seen to release them with the Teutons at the start...

Just att a "add_core = KUR" to the provinces you want them to own and then you can release them in-game.

Here's an example of how it would look like (just replace DAN and SWE with TEU and KUR)

#Skåne, contains entire Skåne-Blekinge

add_core = DAN
add_core = SWE
owner = DAN
controller = DAN
culture = danish
religion = catholic
hre = no
base_tax = 6
trade_goods = grain
manpower = 5
fort1 = yes
capital = "Lund"
citysize = 1500
marketplace = yes
temple = yes # Lund cathedral
discovered_by = eastern
discovered_by = western
discovered_by = muslim
discovered_by = ottoman

Have a save game at the start date, and the open it up with any text editor (preferably notepad ++, for faster load time and less language encoding issues)

Ctrl + F and search Kurland, add core="KUR" somewhere in there, and then you can release Kurland as a vassal from as TO.

If you don't want to be a vassal of TO, just search second="KUR" and edit the vassal portion out. (or add an end date)

Kurland as duchy existed after 1561 (Vasall of Poland), before that it existed as a bishopric of Kurland (by far smaller) since 1234. To represent this the early state (existent since 1435 as vasall of Livonian Order) would be one province and the late state three provinces.

True dat, i was not. Still starting at later date is just more of a challenge than doing it by haxing the game.

And maybe I'll give it a whirl, but I've never been a true OPM at the start of the game, and wanted to give it a try.

I quickly got distracted though with a start as Kazakh.
