The first time you run Gimp, it'll come up with a User Installation dialog, and install a bunch of files... somewhere. On unixlike systems, it'll be in ~/.gimp-1.2. In Windows, if $HOME is set, it'll be in $HOME\.gimp-1.2; if $HOME isn't set, it'll be in \Program Files\GIMP\share\gimp\1.2\.gimp-1.2.somebody. There'll be an (empty) Scripts subdirectory here; copy the .scm file there.

Start up GIMP, and load a 24-bit flag bmp. (The script will work on 8-bit ones, too, but won't erase the purple background at the moment.) Select <Image Menu>/Script-Fu/User/Flag Anim, and a new image with the animation should appear. Save this as a .gif, making sure to select Save as Animation in the first dialog and One Frame per Layer (Replace) in the second.

Excuse me, Korath, but I'm using your script for converting BMP to animated GIFs baut I always obtain this:

There is a "discontinuity" in the movement of the flag, and I can't find where is the problem... Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by a discontinuity; the animation looks smooth to me. Sometimes an animation will jump if you abort loading before it's all in when viewing it, and I imagine that some browsers would keep the partially-loaded image in their cache besides.

On the other hand, you don't seem to have selected the One Frame per Layer (Replace) option in the second dialog when saving. The second dialog doesn't appear if you choose Save; you have to pick Save As to get it. (It'll become the default for the rest of your session once you've chosen it, though, so you only have to do this with your first flag each time you boot Gimp.)

Thanks, I got it!! It was exactly that: I choose "Save" instead of "Save as". As my GIMP is not in english I didn't know exactly which option "One Frame per Layer" was.

Thanks again :)

Downloaded gimp, got everything working in under 30 minutes. I am now a fully qualified shield and flag creator.

Here is the trial flag i just completed using this script
flag_guy.gif
and i must say the whole process from start to finish, after getting acquainted with gimp, was extremely easy.

Korath whilst using photoshop on your template this always happens... (sample shield - one colour, but happens to any)

I can never get the last shield to "gray out" like in MKJ's. Checking on the layers i see they are quite different to his template. The last shield gray is already selected, switching it on and off makes no apparent difference.

What am i doing wrong with regards to the last shield, or more appropriately, why isnt it working?
