I think the AoN beta has a major fault as far as the known provinces are concerned.
It is unrealistic that greeks and italians only know of the mediterranean for example. Both were well known sailor nations after all!
The same goes with some minor nations.Hawaii for example, only knows 2 zones:eek:
I strongly believe this field should be completely revised.
My suggestion:
Fiew nations should know about almost the whole globe:Great Britain,France and Spain.
All naval nations of the mediterranean and northern Europe should have much wider knowledge of the world.Definetely the atlantic coasts and probably the southern-western pacific as well.
Minor nations should also have bearable knowledge of the world at least. In 1819,only secluded nomadic populations in the steppes did not know of Europe!Secluding for example Hawaii on its island, makes it unplayable. They should at least know the closest coastal provinces or their closest neighbouring nations provinces.
There is always columbus ofcourse, but that isnt the issue.
What is your view on the matter?

Not sure about the Italian and greek, but Hawaii, is that a nation founded by Europeans, or is it Native? If the last, they shouldn't have any IMO...

That is not the point.EU is a what if game as well.Natives may not have actually explored, but they could have...
And please dont stick to Hawaii. It is an extreme case after all.Maybe the natives there did not know much in 1819,but greeks and italians definetely knew of america! And muslim states should atleast know all other muslim nations...

You could also use scenario editor, and cut all countries down to only one, and then you click on explored/unexplored,a nd decide what you want, then you save it under some name you want. After that, you can copy the province ID, and transfer it to inc. file. That is much faster, athan manually type in province numbers, and check the ID.

I've just remembered that ALL the spanish and portughese conquistadores were acompanied by priests, and they all made their report to the Pope eventualy. And while the maps were a secret well garded throughout that time, the Pope would have definetly known all their discoveries. But how can you prevent this knoledge from spreading when Rome is captured?

Good point about the Pope... but why try to prevent the maps from spreading if Rome falls? After all, if someone conquered Rome, they could probably break in to their locked up libraries as well...:D

Aside from the pope, all merchants of the time also knew most new exploits.Talking around in taverns and ports was frequent. It would be highly unlikely that greek merchants of 1819 did not know about the US!
