SOLVED! [ Reinstall without the VIET Events module (i.e., type 'n' when prompted about it in the installer). ]

Yep, and sure enough, as soon as I started a game with VIET Events enabled, a child character cropped up with the known_murderer character_modifier on 1066.11.11 (Stamford Bridge bookmark, so it had about 5.5 weeks before it happened, as opposed to the 110 years of it never happening w/ VIET Events disabled). Therefore, the quick fix for the 'Known Murderer bug' is to disable VIET Events for now.

And it does look like my initial hypothesis about a mistake in VIET's 00_on_actions.txt may be true: event ID 10 was invoked on a child, but it was not invoked from any of the non-VIET places (including all of vanilla) that invoke event ID 10. The problem lies in VIET.

Good work mate, appreciate your dedication to squashing this bug! I couldn't replicate the bug today in Vanilla....

It's possible it was limited to the previous version of vanilla (since my MP game was with the previous patch), or it might have just been a fluke.

I concur with you guys.

Previous vanilla 2.3 trait begins showing up very quickly. Vanilla 2.3.2 no signs of it after around 50 years of play this morning. Latest full HIP from 1-16-15, it shows up very quickly.

To be clear, this is known to be a VIET Events issue at this point, and cybrxkhan is now narrowing-down which of his events is somehow triggering the vanilla "known murderer consequences" event on child characters. He was able to reproduce my results with disabling VIET fixing the problem, and he's further narrowed the search space down to a smaller set of suspect events within VIET so far. Also, it does indeed seem to be limited to children.

UPDATE: Hi all, so I believe I've figured out the issue. Seems like on_actions was referencing events that no longer existed in VIET Events. Anyways, to fix this issue for your own version, just go to "mod/Historical Immersion Project/common/on_actions" and open up "00_on_actions.txt". Find the following lines of code and delete/remove/exterminate/destroy them:

Code:
		#VIET IMMERSION STUFF
		#Vegetarian flavor
		100 = vegetarian.9
		100 = vegetarian.10
		100 = vegetarian.11
		100 = vegetarian.12
		100 = vegetarian.13
		100 = vegetarian.14
		100 = vegetarian.15
		100 = vegetarian.16
		100 = vegetarian.17
		100 = vegetarian.18
		100 = vegetarian.19
		100 = vegetarian.20
		100 = vegetarian.21
		100 = vegetarian.22
		100 = vegetarian.23
		100 = vegetarian.24

This will be fixed in the next HIP release. Thanks all for your patience!

Hi,
My heir has this trait, if I change the file, will it correct the bug and remove the trait ?
Thanks

No, though changing the file should prevent future occurrences. Because Known Murderer is a modifier rather than a trait, the only way you're going to get rid of it is by editing your heir's entry in your savegame file and removing the modifier.

Ok thanks for the answer, I will search how to do that !
