Surrounded unit+bombing exploit

I'm not sure if this was intended or not, but it seems to make the game quite easy. Here's a description of a game I just finished.

Playing 1936 scenario as USSR.

Early 1940, Germany declares war.

With a force of 4 tank divisions I punch a hole through their front lines, and sent in a 3-division group of cavalry units (they are faster than any ground units out on the board at this time, apparently).

I proceed to surround the enemy units with them so quickly that they don't have a chance to react. If they do, I send in a single bomb strike to slow them down. Once they are surrounded, send in a set of tactical or dive bombers to drop their organization down to 0. Because they are surrounded, they instantly die.

You are able to set up "kill-zones" where you leave a single un-occupied territory in the middle of several of occupied, get multiple territories' units to retreat toward this territory (which is easy if you've set it up so that's the only non-occupied territory surrounding whatever territory you want to send the units from). Set up a tactical bomber to repeat bomb the territory (even if there isn't any units in it currently), as the units "re-assemble" in that territory, they are bombed into oblivion.

I was able to march across Europe in about 2-3 months with this method systematically destroying the entire German Army, as I only really had to face any given unit once or twice.

Again, it's not really a bug but a blatant exploit that would make one virtually unstoppable given a decent number of land territories (ie, Europe or Asia) and a production heavy in Cavalry and Tactical Bombers with just a few armor to start the process off. IMHO, very unrealistic.

Its a know exploit which they are looking into. Part of the problem is that you can retreat individual units with teh current combat engine. It should be possible to send fresh unit to reinforce a battle and retreat heavly damaged units, Blocking forces where used all the time to give battered units a chance to escape. Not so in HOI. it uses the EU retreat rule retreat a unit and every unit flees and you lose the battle.

Actually you are describing what the Germans were obessesed with, a second 'Cannae'. Also known as a "Kesselschlacht" battle involving a mass encirclement forcing the enemy to be compressed and squeezed in an ever tightening ring and destroyed inside the 'pocket'.
Nice work Herr Feldmarschall! ;)

All:

I'd heard about some sort of surrounding exploit, but I thought it had to do with the bonus given in a battle for extra units at the time, so I figured that I'd post anyway. Sorry for the repeat!

Shadow Soldier:

Ironically I was using it against early-war Germany... but being a great subscriber to Blitzkrieg war theory, I'm not surprised that I ended up mimicking an already developed tactic.
