Recurring CTD after Japan annexes USA

I'm running a 1.1 GHz Celeron processor, Windows XP version 2002 w/service pack 1. I have 384 MB RAM. I'm running a GeForce 2 MX/MX 400, 32 MB RAM on a PCI video card.

I've experienced 2 random CTD's, both after playing hours on end, so no major trouble there.

But my current saved game is having problems. The save happened right after I took the last USA key province and stopped for the night.

When I load up the game, and annex the USA (I'm playing Japan), within a day (game time) the game CTD's every time. I've tried reboots, etc., and no dice.

I've tried running the saved game file without annexing USA and it seems to work okay. But right after I annex USA it crashes.


Game setup:

I am Japan. I am not in any alliance. I am at war with USA, Nationalist China, Guatemala, and Honduras. I have annexed much of the Dutch East Indies (Germany has the rest) and have annexed Mexico. I control all Chinese provinces, Guatemala, Honduras, and all USA provinces except Puerto Rico when I annex USA.

Time is mid-January, 1940.

Same thing here with USSR.

Everytime i try to annex USA the game crashes. CTD-type.

Part of comintern, finland, sweden, norway, afganistan, spain, mongolia, jugoslavia, denmark, rumenia & greece members.

(Finland took New York, Im so proud )

Not involved in any other war.

I got it to stay for a few seconds by:

loading the saved game -> stopping -> starting the game -> annexing -> start time.

It ran for a while until the game went CTD.

Does the Philipines still exist? If so, this is old news, as annexed nations with puppets causes CTDs. I annexed USA just fine as the USSR after I took out their puppets.

I assume the Phillipines still exist? This is a known bug. Will be fixed in next patch;

Some things like Anexing the US of A are so unholy that they are not meant to exist. Therefore the CTD
