The Ottomans are dead! All hail the Knights!

I always like when they go away...and they're not coming back. At the start of journey, they were a menace...I had to tread lightly until I got to the new world. The payback was grand.

Fantastic work in eliminating the Ottomans! ;)

Entry 69

I fell a day before the Ottoman’s surrendered. Cured from my disease, I was instead lowered by a wayward bullet that was meant for Range.

Months later, I was laid to rest in an area not far from Painted Post, a small town located in upper New York State up line. Range found a beautiful spot just below the Catskill mountains.

I listened as he began to speak to me, as if I was right by his side. “Me and Alina plan to one day own this land for good, so you’ll never be alone.”

I was gone, but somehow, somewhere beyond this scene, I awoke from the nightmarish dream.

Tired and desperate Range.

Even a former time regent needs to rest. Range had become weary. All too much was beginning to weigh down on him, as he was beginning to believe everything was about unravel.

Travel to the Holy was becoming safer, but Range still had plans to make it safer. Even with countries like Bohemia, and Lithuania to the north and Great Britain and Spain to the south spreading into the region, linking to the Holy Land, there was still work to be done, and time was running out. He could expect no more assistance from the Grand Marshall as Range had driven a wedge between them.

“Can’t he see what I’m trying to do? I making it safe for every pilgrim to worship in the Holy Land.”

Some were beginning to believe that Range had lost touch with reality between what he was trying to do, and he was in fact doing.

“Do you think I need you…go on, beat it. And don’t show your face around here, again!”

“What, are they kidding?"

Range’s forces had mixed feelings on attacking the Byzantium Empire. As for Range, he had enough of the rulers of Thrace/Constantinople from previous journeys. “WE don’t need two Romes. As much of this region as possible must align itself under one of five flags.”

A slighter larger Knight force met the army of the Byzantium Empire outside the city. “To save the souls inside the city I met you on this battlefield,” said General Konstantinos XIII Komnenos. “Where is Range?”

“He has not returned from the new world.”

Shortly after the battle, the city fell to huge army that soon advanced.

The city’s navy was quickly sunk.

Two of the flags which Range referred to were Lithuania and Bohemia to the northwest. The other three were Spain, Great Britain, and the Knights of course. All five nations were in the same mind set; the region must be made secure for all religious pilgrims...christian of not. Everyone must have the right to worship as they see fit.

Time was running short…one evening, representatives from five kingdoms met to discuss peace arrangements with Range. Within the span of several minutes Range was seen to race from one room to another…back and fourth until all was settled…five separate kingdoms consented to be annexed by the Knights.

The last prize of war.

A little minute was then taken, tidying up…

A sizable army, and navy will have to be maintained, if the Home of the Knights is to survive in whole. Thus, the need for a farewell to the troops.

RANGE’S FAREWELL TO THE TROOPS

The journey had come to an end. As Range stood before his war staff, he took a moment to stare at the officers standing before him. He sighed, noting that Rose, Eric, Leonard, and Henry were not among them.

Taking a deep breath, Range went on to say a few words before departing. “I just wanted to see everybody together one last time before I leave. At one time or another, a lot of you, and your troops must have wondered what was it all about. From the beginning, the Knights first duty was to escort pilgrims to the Holy Lands. That duty hasn’t changed.

Today, that chore still isn’t done. With our victories that duty has grown to not only to protect Christians, but Muslims as well, and anyone else that wants to worship freely and safely in the Holy Lands.

With the help of our navy and army, as well as Spain, Hungary, Lithuania, and England we can maintain a watch on the trails that pilgrims take to and from the Holy lands, guaranteeing their safety.

Farewell, my friends.

Far from here, exists a world outside of time. It is here that the Regents live. Range, once a high Regent, went to their court (which is always in session) were laws, and allowances for exceptions for those laws are considered…and, at times are granted.

Alec G.

Alec G., the High Judge, was not surprised to see Range. “I know why you have come Range. You ask a lot, as much has to be changed.”

“However,” said Range. “there’s nothing in what I ask to be changed that is written in stone.”

An agreement was soon reached between Range and the council of time regents, with Alec G. making the final judgment. History would be changed, so that Rose, her family and her friends never took that trip back in time. Thus, Rose, her family (including her brother) and friends were never trapped, nor died back in time.

As for Rose, she was completely healed, and went on to live a long life in her world with her family and friends.

In exchange, you might ask, just what did Range give up?

Tomlinson

After all was agreed to by Range and the Council, Tomlinson turned to Alec G., and asked, “And, just what does Range truly give up on his end of the bargain?”

“Nothing,” said Alec G., “absolutely nothing. Some things cannot be bargained away…as they are already written in stone.”

“Knowing this, you still agreed to the bargain?” Asked Tomlinson, chuckling.

“You forget, it was I,” said Alec G., “who left Range’s cell open for him to begin his journeys in the first place.”
