In my current playthrough as the King of Wales, I'm wondering if I should move my crown authority from high to absolute. I have no counts or dukes in my kingdom, my vassals are all bishops and mayors. I've married second third and fourth sons off to countesses and duchess' to keep them relatively happy and busy far from home. I have near perfect relationships with the Kings of England, Scotland, France, and the Holy Roman Emperor. What do you guys think about the potential switch to the highest stage of crown authority?

If I expand and have to begin divvying my realm up into duchies and counties, how can I go about preventing my newly empowered vassals from plotting to have crown authority lowered?

They're going to want to, even if they like you. Try to monitor factions if you see one forming to lower authority use your spy master to try to keep others out of the faction and see if you can't take out the leader. Have him excommunicated if you can or plot to have him killed.

In the current system I usually stick to low a lot more before 1.07 I usually stayed at medium. The only thing it does is prevent some wars. You actually can get less levies and taxes the more you increase crown authority since vassal levies and taxes are based upon opinion.

I rather stay on low and increase to Max Feudal levies which is only -5 noble vassal opinion. You will easily get more levies since their opinion of you will be that much higher.

Plus vassals of vassals can war their liege no matter what, there are plot wars, revoking wars, and no all kinds of plot wars. So the more you increase your realm the harder it is for vassals and vassals of vassals to remain at peace. There are just too many exceptions to the higher crown authority's no war stipulation.

Optimum vassal opinion for Catholics is elective, free investiture and low crown authority. Then as I said increase levies and tax. And being on low you will usually avoid all of the plots and factions to lower crown authority.

If I am going to wage war on Muslims or heretics I might increase to Medium just for the free revocation from infidels bonus.

Remember that they doubled the min. levy in the last patch. So absolute gives you 80% of the levy, which IIRC you only get from vassals with 75+ in opinion. So you gain troops from raising authority a lot more often now.

and lets not forget your vassals marrying into foreign kingdoms, which high prevents.

of course the AI will occasionally find a way to avoid your crown authority (I had an AI switch Ireland to seniority when the senior member of the ruling dynasty was a duke of mine)
