Kingdom of Venice

I have played quite a few games, trying to somehow inherit the King-level title of Venice. In one game I started as Iceland, and day-1 swore fealty to venice, and became de jure part of the king-level title. Even as a de jure Duchy, and a vassal of the Serene Doge, with strong claims on both his county and duchy level titles (forged), there are no faction options other than independence, and because of the odd succession, nobody with a claim that I can try to use.

The only thing I haven't tried is also being the owner of pallestrina.

And I'm pretty sure there's some gamey thing I could do if I had an Emperor-level title, but I just want to paint the world teal!

If you've managed to de jure drift your territory into Venice, couldn't you declare independence and then usurp the kingdom title? (assuming you hold a high enough percentage of land to do so...)

The only other way I can think of that has been discussed here is getting an invasion sanctioned by the Pope, which requires you to be smaller than Venice...

Marry someone (a female dynast would probably be best) to the doge and hope for a son

invite the dynast back with kids when the doge dies

Matri-marry a female dynast to one of the children (when adult of cause) and give him a country

Push his claim ...

buy some daggers to point at backs to inherit the crown

You can only create and or usurp the Kingdom of Venice title if you're a republic.

My issue there, is that I don't seem to be able to get the doge to marry anyone...
