I was admiring patch 1.05c and all the fancy new changes that have been brought through, and i noticed that a bunch of titular kingdoms have been added. Cool! I thought, immediatly deciding to play as the King of the Isles and make all of Britian my domain, but I noticed that dukes of the isles are still dukes and not kings. My history on the isles and scotland is fuzzy, but I coulda sworn that there was a Kingdom of the Isles competing with Scotland. Can anyone explain why it isn't included for me please?

There was at times an entitity referred to as the Kingdom of Isles. Its existence was intermittent from the 9th to the 13th centuries. And since Trinacria is in the game, Mann and the Isles really should as well, but it wasn't added. There are several such entities of more importance that Mann after all :p

But if you want it in your game, just make a copy of either gfx\flags\d_western_isles (that's the yellow one with the boats) or gfx\flags\d_the_isles (that's the red one with the triskelion) and rename the new file to gfx\flags\k_the_isles
Then add this to the end of common\landed_titles.txt

Code:
k_the_isles = {
	color = { 6 42 127 }
	capital = 54 # Isle of Man
}

Then add a new localisation line in localisation\text1.csv

Code:
k_the_isles;The Isles;Îles;The Isles;;The Isles;;;;;;;;;x
k_the_isles_adj;Islander;îlois;Insel-;;Isleño;;;;;;;;;x

And you can form the new kingdom as long as you have two ducal titles, meaning you'll have to nab Galloway. It'll only be titular as long as Scotland exists though.

Thanks for the info! I will admit that I'm bummed about not being able to play King of the Isles, in vanilla, but your walkthrough shall make it possible. Oh, and don't you worry about Scotland... I have plans for them...

Are they ... evil plans? Filled with fire and pillage? Because those are GOOD plans! Most of my plans involve a whole lot of woodsmoke y'see. Are you gonna stay Norwegian? If you are, I'd appreciate it if you took Dublin as quick as you could as well. I really do loathe to see them running around not being Norwegian. Breaks the heart, it does. >_>

Adding titular kingdoms is pretty easy so if you can think of any plausible ones then add your own and test them out!

Edited to include the ones I use -- including a titular empire of Ethiopia. :)

As Isaios as suggested you will have to add shields and localization stuff for the new ones.

I really do wish most of these smaller kingdoms were in the game somehow as kingdoms. Other than Cornwall, i'd love to start a game as Venice and lead on to a Venetian Empire, ideally withput having to edit game files. There's nothing worse than playing as a smaller power, capturing most of the territory of your de jure kingdom and being forced to give up your name. It really ruins freedom of choice.
Personally, i'd like the ability to "declare yourself king" with 2 or more duchies and have this start a war with the de jure kingdom which claims yours or the other duchies which have the same de jure kingdom as you. Of course this could extend to starting an empire, and would really add to the RPG elements, and make the game feel less rigid. Smaller kingdoms were not called duchies in Northern Europe, and having an independent duke feels oddly Mediterranean if you're playing a nation on this side of the map.

Off the top of my head, two more:

Code:
k_prussia = {
	color={ 200 100 100 }
	capital = 370 # Marienburg
	culture = german
	allow = {
		OR = {
			religion = catholic
			is_heresy_of = catholic
		}
	}
}

k_alania = {
	color={ 155 110 48 }
	capital = 603 # Alania
	culture = alan
	allow = {
		OR = {
			religion = orthodox
			is_heresy_of = orthodox
		}
	}
}

Prussia is obvious :p But I really wanted to limit it to only the Hohenzollern dynasty, for the lulz as it were, but haven't had the time to see what code to use. And Alania shouldbe obvious, it was just as much a kingdom as Georgia, but I've left it titular so as not to upset anything in that region. It'll not form easily, since the Alans have problems expansionwise. And it'll be even harder to get it de Jure, since the only avenue south is de Jure Georgia and else under the control of Seljuks and or the ERE, while north is the Cumans, who already control one county of the Duchy of Alania.

Also, quick question: Shoudln't Abyssinia be named Ethiopia? The name Abyssinia comes from the name for one of the major ethnic groups in the area, the Habasha, the people from whom the Solomonids came. But they only came to power in 1270. And the name Ethiopia was used in the region (by Axum for instance) since the 4th.

Anyway, are titular Dukedoms formable?

I could re-name it I suppose -- I only called it that because I just copied the k_abyssinia text and changed it to e_abyssinia. :laugh:

I'm not convinced about Prussia, but it's down to personal taste I suppose.

I'm not convinced about Prussia, but it's down to personal taste I suppose.

I didn't intend to lend it any weight or intimate that it has even a touch of historicity, but I felt it was obvious for the entertainment value alone :p

Let's see. There's the Kingdom of Mallorca, made in the 13th for the son of some king of Aragon. It was a vassal title of course. Then there was the Kingdom of the Canary Islands, under that crazy french guy, Bethencourt. He accepted the suzerainty of the king of Castille. There's the Kingdom of Albania, established sometime in 1280 as I recall, Cilicia might be a kingdom in its own right, but Armenia could be said to fill that requirement already. Lombardia could still be worthy of a kingdom title. As could the Swizz federation. That's all I could think of atm, but I'm sure more'll come to me :p

Damn! I wish I'd remembered about the kingdom of Mallorca before just uploading my mod. I'll add that later -- with relevant historical kings of course. :happy:
