Braganza could possibly be "duchy of Porto" for example, since Nuno, the duke of "Braganza" in 1066 was "count of Oporto". I myself like Braganza more though, since I like historical duke titles in CK era or close to CK era over "elevated" county titles, but I know not everyone agrees with me. :)

I prefer Porto or Portugal in this case. Normally I also always take historical duchies over "elevated counties" but this case is specific becuse the closest we have is Braganza and Coimbra in the area and both these duchies came at the very end of CK period, which means 99.9% of CK time they didn't exist and are ahistorical. If it appeared....let's say...in 1360 I'd have nothing against but this way it's ridiculous.

Finellach is right. The most historically accurate option would be "County of Portugal" (although, for gameplay terms, it could be ascended to Duchy). We would have the County of Portugal and the County of Galicia, ocuppying the respective areas (historically, the areas ocuppied by the Duchies of Braganza and Galicia couldn't be more correct) and being vassals of the King of Leon.

I really doubt renaming duchies will fly for 1.05 though, since having Porto alongside with Coimbra, Viseu and Tejo would be just weird and larger duchy changes are better for 1.06, since we are wrapping up for 1.05, like you can see with MrT's Last Call.

Proposals for portuguese territories in future patches

I totally agree that the actual Duchy of Braganza should become Duchy of Porto in a future patch. Also the county of Coimbra (governed by Sisenando) should maintain its feudal links to the Duchy of Porto. And since you're talking about the "Viseu Duchy": If there are plans to maintain it as it is, it's name should change (maybe to Alentejo, or something), since Viseu (the city) is no on those domains.

Alentejo is the region name, but since it was conquered by Portugal in the XIIt century, and given to the Military Orders, only in the XVth century had it's first counts and dukes, ergo not on CK era, I'm afraid.

Well, one could argue that the duchies that did get established there in 15th century (of which only latter part is outside CK era) would have got established there in same names, if they would have been established earlier.

There were no duchies in Alentejo as far as I know. Viseu is in totally wrong place...I mean the town of Viseu is to the north of Coimbra for gods sake...how can a duchy then be south of it??

There was duchy of Beja not long after CK era ends. It's a bit south though, so I'd be happier to know about late 15th or early 16th century duchy between Beja and Coimbra.

As Kaiser has said, we have discussed privately while the thread was closed about the most heated point, and as he said I think I reasoned well enough about the matter.

About the county of Porto/Portugal, it sounds like a great idea. A duchy sounds fine, even if it was a county in name. There is a clear example of this just at the other side of Iberia, with the County of Barcelona (historical name) being Duchy of Catalonia (in game).

By the way, should not this duchy be all four provinces (iirc) between the Minho and the Duero rivers?

Duchy of Porto would be Porto, Braganza, Castelo Branco and Coimbra.

The problem area is the area between those four and Algarve in the south.

Indeed. That area is also wrong IMO. As it is now we have Tejo(Alentejo?) and Viseu(???) inbetween.

But bitching about it atm is not going to create a change to it for 1.05 purposes, as you can see from Last Call sticky by MrT, we are far too close to 1.05 to do such large scale changes. So it's better to pick up the ball for 1.06 instead.
