I am planning on trying out serving as a vassal in the Byzantine Empire, as I want to play the vassal game as I am getting bored as playing pagans. What I want to know is: is it possible for my Kingdom to be revoked and made into a viceroyal? Curious as fear of getting my Kingdom revoked stopped my last Kingdom of Serbia, Hammer of Byzantine Empire game.

So will I be safe? Or is that a threat I need to worry about?

In my experience there is a bit of 'sweet spot' were the AI will attempt to revoke titles and it's around 50-75% of the lieges power. Lower than that and you aren't seen as a threat and higher than that and the AI doesn't seem to want to risk war. Things like opinion, culture and religion will also play a part. One thing I am almost certain of is that once your are as powerful as your liege he will never try to revoke you.

If you're powerful enough to form a kingdom as a Byzantine vassal, than you are also (probably) powerful enough to avoid revocation. Or at the very least, give them a bloody nose for trying. What the ai will do however, is keep assigning random viceroys in your de jure territory to try and steal your vassals from you. Not so bad once you have your kingdom but as a duke-level it's kind of bollocks.

Once I did the MR trick to get Antioch as one and then sweared fealty to teh Byzzies. Not evne 2 months passed and the Emperor already revoked my title and gave it as a viceroyalty for someone else. Damn.
Well, I was Muslim, so that perhaps made it happen. I'll try in the future as a converted Orthodox, but I still think he'll do the same.

Save up cash and create ANY title that you can yourself. If you create the kingdom/duchy then he'll never get the chance to make it a viceroyalty.

And to be honest, I haven't had a liege revoke a title (same religion) and take the opinion penalty in a long, long time...
