My frustration right now is pretty darn steaming, but for whatever reason I havent thrown my computer across the room. This is the third private war I have started and have ended up not only with no newly annexed land, but in a budget deficet thanks to a greedy and annoying AI.

Recently as Austria I took over switzerland single handedly and had almost all provinces under my banner, in a War I started. Luckily enough the King of Germany didn't initially intervene as ou relations were rather outstanding. During the last year of the war he joined in, capped one last province and by then, it was negotiation time. I was rather happy with the outcome, I would have gained three territories, and divied up the swiss, leaving them at the mercy of the King, who I was more than willing to let deal with the rebellious bastards (they had grown quite powerful - and a little angsty)

But! As I was just about to make peace with the Swiss, I watched and cried as all of my controlled territories and hard work went to the desmne of my King. I damn near ripped my hair out. He had negotiated a separate peace, sending me and my private war down an unhappy agreement of forced peace and no land gained.

So, let me pose the questions? Is there any remedy to this? If not, is there a script that can make it so you can only annex provinces that you have claim to AND control directly?

thanks for the help guys
-Pat

This can't be modded, unfortunately. Welcome to feudalism... your lord protects you, but also grabs anything you won he likes.

By far the worst of this behaviour is when you're about to win a war, and he signs a white peace.

Not that it will lighten your annoyance, but the opposite is also possible. I had my liege give me an entire duchy once (when I only wanted a county or two), but yes... That's what they usually do.

Best thing to fix it is to be without a liege. :)

God, you're an ungrateful whining prick!

Your liege will do anything to keep you alive and happy after all. You declared war on that 400 pound gorilla next door? Your liege will jump at him to protect you, no matter if it costs him his life and half of his empire. You feel those heathens in Persia should speak German? Your liege will go there for you, no matter if it leaves his desmene in shambles. You feel one 400 pound gorilla wasn't enough? Try two at a time. Your liege will do his duty, and he will not whine about it. That's his part.

My frustration right now is pretty darn steaming
That's how you're supposed to feel about your liege. Now it's time for payback. Make him suffer!
Be creative! Be mean! Be a treacherous, backstabbing bastard! Take everything from that useless, fat slob!
You'll be a better useless, fat slob. That's your part.

Another thing you should consider doing is beating your liege to the peace. Say you're fighting a one province enemy. Siege his province and pause the game the day you take the province (there is a setting that will pause the game when you take a province) don't unpause until after you make peace.

Fighting a larger enemy can be trickier. Sometimes you'll have to settle for a single province/title (even when you control half his demise) in order to beat your liege to the peace.

Generally I get rid of any liege ASAP I'm placed under unless I feel a need for his protection.

hahah well thank you all for helping me out - I especially liked Mauricio's response. I guess I'll just have to do the pause thing. It just made me a little upset because technically it's a-historical. Burgundy fought and owned property outside the boundaries of France, and no French monarchs jumped in and stole his land - as did many of the German states and Italian states in the HRE. Eh - but you win some you lose some, right?

When I play kingdoms, I always end the wars of my vassals as quickly as possible even if they spent their entire treasury to send some regiments over to Spain. I don't want them to become powerful or get land that is halfway across the map.

I also keep their troops around even after the war is over, if I feel I may need them some time later. Or if I think the vassal has too much gold and should pay some more for his troops. I like to "attrite" his gold away by having his regiment guard some swamp in northern Russia. I want my vassals to be poor and indebted to me, their lord.

Oh the joys of being a feudal lord :D
