I started playing a couple of months ago and have done little else since lol...for the hell of it I laid claim to the title Emperor of Byzantium while playing England in Hastings campaign, and took it when Byzantia was the only province he held thanks to Realm Duress (I figured being able to hold 4x as many provinces myself would be worth the expense of sending a few thousand men all the way down from England).

After this I realized I would only have the bonus if that was primary title and Windows 7 is a fussy whore and probably will be for the next couple of years, so I couldn't mod the file without the save game being unrecognized afterwards. I passed the Emperor title to my best heir, a well-rounded master theologian with all 10+ stats, along with every other king title except England which apparently you can't get rid of...or maybe it was just my last title...in any event, I passed all my other king titles to him along with all my personal provinces except one or two, and all my ducal titles (NOTE: have the game paused when you do this, as you won't be able to bestow anymore titles after the first emperor or king title otherwise). As you grant your heir titles he will gain vast amounts of prestige for each as well, far more than from simply inheriting on your death, and will have EoB as primary as long as its the first king level title you pass him...give all titles you possibly can to him, save game and reload selecting his primary title (Emperor of Byz) to play as instead of England and you are playing your heir waiting for the old man to die n inherit his lands/title...yes, you still inherit even though you aren't a member of his kingdom anymore!!!

Just don't put your game(s) in c:\Program Files\ folder, and you should be able to modify all the files you want ;)

I have Windows 7 and have no problems modding files at all ... since my games are on E:\Games\

I had once started a game as Queen Sybilla of Jerusalem with a series of daughters as my heiresses. Princess Alys was the eldest, and I married her to the childless Byzantine Emperor.

In the fullness of time, Sibylla passed away and Jerusalem was inherited by Queen Alys, who in turn passed it to her Greek son! lol. The whole Byzantine and Jerusalem realms were thus united peacefully.

Of coarse, both Sibylla and Alys had to fight the Muslims, and I variously gained and lossed territory until both realms were united.

Something easier I used to do was to pledge allegience as a breakaway Greek/Byzantine prince to Sweden. With Sweden having elective law, there was a fair chance my prince (duke if he converts) could take the throne if he had at least 2 provinces.
