hi

I have been having a few goes at CK2 some have gone well others not so well.

For something a bit different I decided when the crusades hapenend I would give myself some extra money to buy mercenaries and become the King of Jerusalem.

It how now happened I did not expect it to as Croatia was giving me a run for my money on who would become KOJ. One thing though I had not planned it through (doh), how do I handle the fact I am both

1. Keep both?

How do I manage my vassals in this situation? Give some to ones in England?

2. Give one of my sons the Kingdom of Jerusalem to become separate?

3. Can I give up the Kingdom of England and I become KOJ?

Not sure on my next steps any advice?

Hand it to a younger son or brother with their own line, so there's no (or very little) chance that you or your line will ever inherit Jerusalem again.

This will keep Jerusalem within your dynasty (and as an ally) but means the AI will handle the boring, tedious stuff such as vassal management.

I really suggest you keep it. I played France, won Jerusalem, and used it as a foothold to expand to Egypt. Kept it for 200 years, lost it for 3 years then reconquered it. Manage your vassals as dukes, not counts. And make sure all your vassals in Jerusalem have the same culture as you.

Jerusalem (the county) itself is a 6 holding county. Since England or Britannia doesn't have a 7 holding county, it's best to hold onto Jerusalem. It is a bit inconvenient if you do get Holy-Warred/Jihaded for Jerusalem, but just transport troops from England and you'll be fine.

Something strange happened once while I was King of Sweden. I contributed the most to the crusade on Jerusalem, thus taking control of the kingdom. I don't like the idea of seeing a blue Sweden in the Middle East, so I gave the title of KoJ to my brother. However, what happened is that my brother's land in Finland became Jerusalem!

That being said, if you give the kingdom away, give it to someone landless.

I tend to give away my first kingdom to a brother, and become a crusader king in the middle east.

Hi

Thanks for your advice, I am going to hold onto KOJ for now but I have four sons, one I have given a duchy in Wales as my heir (which all heirs will take). I have actually split the KOJ into two for the other two sons, both hold two duchies one in the north and one in the south. Hmm wonder if a dynastic battle will commence. But I have actually given them only one or two counties each and the rest are made up of other counts so they do not have a major base.

Next steps as King of England

1. Go for Scotland and Ireland or
2. Expand in the Middle East.
