King-level Bishops

Quick question; sorry if previously asked and answered...

But! Can you a) grant a Kingdom to a bishop and b) if not, can bishops create them themselves?

a) yes, if you are an emperor. b) don't know, but I would presume so assuming they hold 2 duke titles and have enough piety and cold, hard cash.

I've tried creating the Kingdom of Ireland as Empress of Britannia, but when I try and grant it to my duke-level Bishop, it doesn't show...

What am I overlooking?

I believe it is only possible if a bishop has a claim on a kingdom pushed through. Kingdoms cannot normally be given to non-fedual vassals.

It happens a few times, with someone pushing a bishops (probably a former prince) claim to the throne. But with the new faction system and -30 relations from being "the wrong kind of government type", it will probably collapse to a new fedual claimant soon enough.

I had a HRR Holy Roman Republic. It didnt collapse in fact it was remarcably stable much to my annoyiance.

How does that -30 appear though? In my current game I pushed a claim for England for another character (as an emperor) and I made him a Bishop before declaring war so he would also be my vassal when he took over and I've gotten no negative relationship points from this.

A patch changed this. You only get the -30 with Mayors - you no longer get it with Bishops.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. Well that could turn out to be troublesome down the line if he starts settling in priest vassals every time he revokes a vassal.

Is there any downside to Prince-Bishops since they removed this penalty? Don't they give you more money and the same amount of troops?

It seems to be. Bishops are so much easier to keep happy. Free investiture combined with making sure your heir has traits the church like such as Kind, Diligent, Charitable etc pretty much guarantees that Bishop vassals will never cause trouble by joining factions/revolting and you can even choose the successor to make sure they don't have a different culture to you and don't have traits such as ambitious. I think I'm going to make as many of my vassals Bishops in the future, I can't see any reason not to.

They do not give the same amount of troops and they stagnate the development of baronies (that has by far the best levies) quite a bit, since lone barons has horrid income compared to a count.

Bishops are remarkably stable indeed... a nice mixture between cash and levies. But let's be honest... it's boring to have nothing happen to your Empire, like ever.

A fantasy Prester John DLC I could get behind. Not a terrible idea.

I made a basic mod for that my self. Using the start date where genghis appears in the east first with both the horde titles, i changed him to a nestorian Prestor John (i made prestor his title i think) and i gave him his appropriate heir (David maybe? i forget). I changed golden horde to 'india' and il khanate to 'cathay' which seemed appropriate. I was originally going to do it for an AAR but i bottled out (i was going to delete the horde armies themselves).

I reckon it would make an interesting fantasy DLC though. Prestor John gets his letter from the pope and rushes to save christendom...even if its the wrong kind of christendom.
