  • For The Glory
Yesterday I finally finished a very long trek towards the Viking Ummah achievement.

It wasn't rushed,in fact I delayed the moment of actually getting to achievement so I could further enjoy the Shia Jorvik Britain generated on the way to the actual achievement. One does eventually tire of raiding France, Iberia and Rome, however. Iqta is just too powerful. So that game is done.

Looking for the next campaign now, with all expansions except Reaper's Due.

These limited objectives that create cute alt-hist scenarios are kinda my favorite, since they give you a scope and don't demand that you conquer all of the map but instead demand something from your imagination. Previously I got the Saint Thomas' Dream and Little Brother Rules achievements for example.

So what would you fine gents recommend? It doesn't have to be a campaign directed towards an achievement, although it helps keep things focused and forces ironman.

Thanks in advance!

I know you say all DLC expect Reaper's Due, but I think you may want to reconsider that. So far it's tons of fun for me at least.

With that in mind, I think it would be fun to do one of two things, both predicated on the ability to increase the number of holding slots in a province, an event that I think requires Reaper's Due:

1. Start as a tribal Suomenusko or Romuva ruler, and turn the Finland or the eastern Baltic into an economic and political powerhouse of prosperous counties.

2. Start as one of the Basque rulers, and try to spread Basque culture as far as possible, trying to get the kingdom of Navarre to have max holdings.

Heh. Doing EXACTLY this in every new DLC from, well, Old Gods. Kind of tradition.
In Reaper's Due it's really simpler - with ability to make megapolice from every province, not just from Novgorod.

One of my favourite campaigns I did in CK2 was what I call 'Cathar Conquest'. Basically you start as a Duke (or Duchess) in the British Isles as a ruler-designed Cathar, and try to conquer all of the British Isles and convert every county to Cathar. As an added little restriction I imposed on myself to make it slightly more challenging, I only allowed myself to take land in one de jure kingdom at a time (i.e. conquer all of England before I'm allowed to take any land in Scotland, Wales or Ireland.)

I had heaps of fun playing this campaign, I think I might start another one with the Reaper's Due.

Two things immediately come to mind- browse the Interesting Characters List at the CK2 Wiki or alternatively try looking at the Weekly Challenge threads. One that would probably be right up your alley is Mixcoatl's Scouting Party.

I've been thinking of doing a 1066 Duke of Axum, and now that East African portraits have finally been released, it seems like the perfect time.

The Duke of Axum, in case you didn't know, is a Jewish ruler in Abyssnia, and was actually the only Jewish character in the game before the Khazars got added. It's really fun consolidating your power in de jure Abyssnia and Nubia by holy warring your neighboring Christians and Muslims. The start is also rather difficult as the Fatimid Caliphate to your north is VERY powerful. But perhaps you can overcome by making alliances through favors.

Play as King Desiderius of Lombardy in 769. You own most of Italy and can form Sicily quickly, along with the Empire of Italia if you wreck the Slavic pagans of the Balkans for the 3rd Kingdom title required. You can also flip to Italian via event and have a monopoly with the Cardinals and Popes. It's also easy to vassalize the Pope from your realm.

Oh and Italian retinues are great. You can role play as a successor empire to Rome, rivaling the Eastern Romans :D You're in the middle too so you have many options to expand. Personally I like to go into the Balkans and mess with the ERE, and Jerusalem is close by if a Crusade calls ;)

If you want something more challenging then play as Asturias in 769 and form Hispania. Or you could try the Duke of Bordeoux in 769, the Louping dynasty, and kick out the Karlings from within.
