Kinda got carried away with Court #s / What's your highest count?

I'm at 77 in my court and counting -- I kinda got carried away with genetic experiments , attracting talent and diluting some of my inbred dynasty. Plus some of my landed lines are dying out. I guess this could be dangerous for plots, esp. for a new heir? Also, I don't know if there is a disease modifier. In any case, my title should be King Babysitter. Anyone else do this or live to regret it? Plague won't hit for 50 or so years ... not sure what happens then, which makes this game suspensful.

Thankfully theyre lowborn and can be mat married the heck out sometimes. I did give my very first retinue general a barony in Alexandria though. I married first him, and later his son, to lowborn ladies. Im curious how long I can keep his lowborn dynasty going... though really, it seems like at this point they should be a recognized noble house.

Ok I do have many 40 to 50 year-old military types in my court I notice...usually I have to hunt for them or train them...are you saying retinues cause the population explosion? I mean besides my tendencies as "Eugenics Emperor" (that was good I've mat married some but darn since i posted the count had gone closer to 90.

What concerned me is if they don't like my heir there is a much larger pool of people for an enemy to plot with...or no?

I have a really bad habit of arranging marriages between my courtiers and bringing in brides/grooms from abroad for my courtiers. I think one time I got way over 100+ people in my court. I especially like finding good spouses for my courtiers who are decent people who deserve a happy (married) life. Yes, I'm too emotionally involved in all this.

My rulers usually probably would be better off retiring and being a matchmakers rather than a rulers, thus.

:rofl: I have had to fight the same urges, though i usually arrange for them to move to another court after marriage. I am usually successful in keeping my court population around 20 or so.

One player posted a racket he ran, inviting old characters to his court because he inherited all their money when they died. He had around 200 in his court when he read about the fertility penalty, which he thought applied to his ruler. Next thing he was killing off courtiers like a Quentin Tarantino film and his reputation was in ruins from all the plotting.

I did NOT know about the natural death % increasing with a large court population. I may need to arrange some more marriages. :unsure:

I don't think you need a commander for every levy, right? I have over a hundred in my court, but I think nine or twelve is more than enough.

I know it isn't really impressive but I went from 18 as King of Burgundy.(I run a tight ship, and like keeping Heir landless)to 72 upon being Elected HRE Emperor.

The randomly generated generals and debutantes need to be axed.

Just give us a button in intrigue screen for generals.Raise retinue, push button get general.Unless you have landless younger sons (use them instead)

Because all the extra courtiers are slowing down the game.........plus too many AI Kings and SuperDukes are marrying the lowborn golddigging tramps.

Speaking of the Court - is there an easier way to get to the Court screen? it seems you have to click on your portrait and then click Court again every time - unlike the Vassal screen. Or do you use the Character screen - but there's no Court button there.

Man, I was thinking I'd be on top before I read the guy who said he had 200. I had a little over 130 court members when I played as the muslim khan of Spain (and France, through Jihad). Once the Ilkhanate came, they ended up taking most of the Middle East all the way out to Egypt and up to Greece and the Baltic area, so guess where many of the displaced counts and their family and court went.

I do admit, now to think of it, that I tend to have more courtiers when playing as Muslims... because I tend to get too many wives for my male courtiers I'm fond of. It's kind of addictive trying to, um, find every single genius/attractive woman and marrying them into your court. I do however also like marrying my shy, craven, and otherwise introverted/meek male courtiers to a bunch of hot-headed/dominant women, since I find it funny imagining them getting dominated by all their wives. Yes, again, I'm too emotionally involved in this.
