I started as a count in Brittany, and eventually the Duke took Cornwall and created the Kingdom of Brittany. I fought him for his Duchy, then after winning that fought him for the Kingdom (all through plots). After I got the kingdom, I changed it to elective. Soon I used a weak claim to take a Welsh duchy, and then created the Kingdom of Wales. The Kingdom of Wales used the same laws as my Kingdom of Brittany. I've listed all the steps since it seems I've had a different experience to everybody regarding the mirroring of laws to newly created titles, and I didn't encounter this bug.

I started as the Duke of Barcelona, with primogeniture, but when I became King of Aragon it reset to gavelkind.
Well that is wierd then...I am using the Gamersgate version. Maybe the problems are with the Steam Version then?? (can't think of what else) Because I read this post before I became king and then Emperor, and I was wondering if it was worth playing myself...but like I said it didn't change for me, which is very odd since it did for you. I started as a Welsh count and then duke, and then became king of Ireland and then emperor of Brittanna, and the law was always agnatic-cognatic primogeniture after I changed it from the orignal gavelkind.

I am also playing the steam version and have found this to be the case. I numerous times now have played starting as Duchess of Brittany and every single time I create the kingdom it resets to gavelkind, although if you are a king and create another kingdom I believe it defaults at your current kingdoms succession laws. Although you can technically this way change succession laws twice with the same ruler. With my first ruler I was able to change the law to elective so I could choose my heir then when she inherited and changed the gender law to absolute cognatic and created the kingdom of Brittany she after ten years of creating it was able to change it from gavelkind back to elective even though she had already changed the gender law.

I finally managed to turn the ERE primo. I created the kingdom of Greece and that was Primo as well. So looks like it was fixed with 1.06b

I'll try again and see how it goes. I do have the gamersgate version so let's see how it goes. it could be a wierd culture/succession wrinkle but it's happened to me as Wales and Barcelona.

Damn thing resets sometimes and sometimes not... I'm lost.

I'm pretty new, so this might not be seem technical.

In any case, I was Emperor of Hispania, and King of Castille, Leon, Galicia, Aragon, and Portugal, and Portucale. I had all of the Agnatic-Cognatic, Primogeniture. When I take over the Kingdom of Mauretania (sic?), it was Agnatic Gavelkind. I had to change it to Agnatic-Cognatic, Primogeniture. However, when I take over the Kingdom of Mali, it defaulted to Agnatic-Cognatic, Primogeniture. And then, when I took over the Kingdom of Africa, it defaulted to Agnatic-Cognatic, Primogeniture. All of these new Kingdom Titles I took over were Muslim titles.

With that in mind, I think that, if they were Kingdom Titles were from Muslim, they must have been originally Agnatic Open. When a Christian takes it over, the Open part no longer applies. The closest Christian counterpart in the game is Gavelkind. It defaults to Gavelkind, then. So, it defaults to Agnatic Gavelkind. However, if you change it, then next you get a "similiar" title (in a similiar region?) then it defaults to what you set before.

Does this make sense? I hope I'm correct.

I don't think any of the independent counties in Ireland are using Open succession, so when someone who previously had Elective succession and creates the Kingdom of Ireland - and it resets to Gavelkind succession - something is wrong.

Are you usurping those former Muslim titles or creating them afresh?

Uh, good question. I think in Mali's case, definitely new. I think the other two cases, I Holy war'd them, and for whatever reason, I had create them anew. Couldn't usurp them.

The question is pertinent because, of course, if you usurp, they should set to agnatic gavelkind (for the reason you stated) but if you create them, they should, theoretically, fall in line with your primary title. Are you sure you didn't usurp Mauretania?

Yeah, usurping keeps the laws (including crown laws) of the country. So as a general principal you want to destroy and create afresh other people's titles.

Will try creating a higher tier title with duke of apulia when I get the time.

But creating a king title as emperor didn't reset laws.

Yeah, I'm sure. I completely defeated the Sultanate of Maurentania, so he had to vacate his title - I took all his land.

Definitely happening, the successions seem to be saved or at least applied for the character but not for the titles, so if you get a higher level title it resets - regardless of how you get it.

Also if you grant a title it resets to gavelkind as well, shouldn't be happening. Very, very annoying.

Having the same issue when I create the Kingdom of Ireland (resets from elective to gavelkind). Rather annoying esp. since I've already have three duchies which will be divided between the children when my current ruler dies. Fortuantely he's quite old so I'll just wait till he's dead and hope that his heir will last 10 years.
