Well, I was still holding out a small hope that Backers would get the game a day or two early. I have a test on the 24th and I won't be able to focus knowing that I have BT waiting for me back at home!
It hasn’t yet...
Too late... it must have sensed my Directorate'ness!Quick, convince it you're not a Taurian spy!
Fellow weirdo thought the same thing. Reddit seems to think the files will be encrypted until we download a key at release time. So no modding head start. Hoping not so, or that only the executable is encrypted, or something.Ooo!!! Preload on Monday, huh?
I have a feeling that means I'll be able to start digging into the final JSONs a day early. That was always a higher priority for me than actually playing anyway.
(Yeah, I know I'm weird.)
Ah... yeah, that would make sense. In any case, it sounds like GOG isn't doing a preload anyway, and that's how I'll be getting my copy.Fellow weirdo thought the same thing. Screw the credit card info. I don't want some nutball hacking my game before I even get it to insert malicious code.Something is very wrong in society when our video games are better protected than our credit information. <Stares angrily at Equifax>
With regards to pre-loads, please understand that
1) When the game unlocks the game will start decrypting
2) This process is EXTREMELY CPU and IO intensive
3) This means the process is going to take a long time depending on if you are CPU limited (1.1GHz Atom) or IO limited (5400 rpm hard drive)
4) If you have a fast CPU and fast disk (7200/SSD) pre-loading is generally good and the decryption process doesnt take that long
IN THEORY you might actually be better off not pre-loading if you fit into a VERY narrow critera of
1) Your CPU and hard drive are garbage
2) But for some reason you have gigabit downloads from Steam
In this ultra theoretical situation, its possible you might be better off downloading the game directly rather than pre-loading. Steam can already saturate a gig connection, and the decryption pre-loaded data on a bad system would take longer than just downloading the game directly. Though this scenario does run into the problem that, even just downloading the game directly, steam does compress data down the pipe. This means that you are still possibly CPU and IO limited as the direct download still is decompressing data, though again this depends on the compression ratio of the data.
tl;dr
1) Decrypting pre-loads takes a long time
2) Don't panic
Near as I know/remember: You need to have Steam up, connected, and running, because it'll need to download a decryption key. You might also need to restart steam when the release hour hits, because it might not pick up that the release happened.Since I have never pre-loaded the game. Does the steam connection need to be up for the decrypt or does it trigger automatically at noon?
Thank you kindly, that means the laptop stays at home on Tuesday to do its math instead of coming into work with me for me to play on lunch.Near as I know/remember: You need to have Steam up, connected, and running, because it'll need to download a decryption key. Remote sessions, man! TeamViewer (or similar, more secure personal options) are your friend! That means the original plan of going home at lunch to trigger the download/decrypt is still the plan.

It seems you need to own a Twitch channel, no known anything about BT, to get a free gift copy of BT before backers to make fun of how un-manga the "robots" look.
Sigh,,,,
That's functionally the core part of marketing. Look any of the 'hard core' BT fans already
Streamers are there as part of the overall marketing campaign to get anyone who isn't a hard core BT fan on board. Whether you like it or not, YT and streamers are very much an integral part of any marketing campaign now. In order to reach a wider audience who doesn't know about BT, this is basically marketing 101 right now.
