Kick faction member

So I'm playing as Germany, and have conquered about half of Europe. My plan with this run was to basically take over as much as I can, alone. However, when I attacked Italy, Italy in turn attacked Greece, and Greece auto-joined the Axis with me getting a say in the matter. How on earth do I get rid of them? Is it not possible? Googling, people seem to suggest that the only way to do it is by tag-switching to them and leave, but this is Ironman, so that's not happening. I also can't disband the faction, since I'm not alone in the faction, which is.. my entire problem. Apparently the "correct way" to do it would've been to disband the Axis at the start of the game, but too late for that now. I just had no idea countries could automatically join without me getting a choice, especially since they're not even fascist. There's also the matter of Italy declaring war on Greece when my armies had taken half of the Italian peninsula, but I guess that's for another time..

Is there really no way around this? It kind of ruined my whole run, and I'm not feeling very inclined to keep playing.

Is Greece fascist? If not, they'll almost certainly leave the Axis of their own accord once the war is over (in general, the AI will not stay in a faction where they have a different ideology from the leader when at peace).

They are Non-aligned. The war has been over for a few weeks though, and they're still in the faction.

I don't think theres anything that can be done since its ironman. One of the reasons I never Ironman myself.

This is actually turning out even more frustrating. I decided to play on anyway because, whatever, Greece is weak and don't do anything anyway. I attacked the Soviet Union and.. they declared on Japan, which auto-joined the Axis. It does look like my original intention to conquer the world by myself is pretty much busted.

Yeah it's even worse when countries can just join your faction without anyone asking you. Being the leader is just a liability cause you cant leave.

Try switching ideology and see if they drop out then. Alternatively, if you form the Berlin - Moscow Axis that automatically kicks out everyone in the existing Axis and Comintern.
