Do you also press the pause/Break button alot in single player mode?
I grew tired of this since the button is placed a bit awkward. To fix this I built a tiny program that allows me to remap the pause/break function to a preset nr of other keys. I thought it turned out quite well and figured I should share this with the community.

http://www.hemweb.se/mds/keymapper.exe

1. Start the tool
2. Choose the button you want to map the Pause/Break function to
3. Leave the program running and start the best game in the world (HOI2)

Enjoy!

Finally a reply. I know I tried out a few combinations playing myself and didn't find any problems with it. But as someone mentined in another thread... mapping the pause function to say the spacebar will cause the game to pause and unpause when renaming a unit for example. The tool can also be configured during gameplay.

To do this so, simply Alt+Tab yourself to the tool, shut it down and restart it, and mapping another favour key of yours.

As a workaround you can hit SHIFT-Space for a space when renaming units. I think I like this little tool, thanks a lot!! :rolleyes:

I've been using your remapping tool for playing all weekend and it was just fine. One question: I'm using a Swiss-german keyborard. There is a key to the left of the "1", basically the key below the ESC key. With my system it generates a "§" (paragraph sign). Would it be a big problem to include this key in the scroll-down list? This may be even more convenient than the Space bar.

Somehow I can't get your tool to work. I downloaded it, executed it, but the drop-down menu to choose a key is empty for me. When I manually enter a key and then open the drop-down menu, it seems to choose this key (changing e.g. 'y' => 'Y', 'space' => 'Space'), but the menu is still empty. I kept it running but it didn't work in HoI with different keys.
When the keymapper is open, I get an icon in the taskbar which changes about every second between a red X and two crossed tools, the tooltip says it is paused. :confused:

This is using Windows 2000 SP4, by the way.

Maybe it is because of your slightly older Windows versions? I'm using WinXP and it installed and worked just fine, the dropdown list appeared normally etc., really all very easy. (Please note I'm not the author of the program, just using it)

I have that key on my Swedish keyboard too, I'll include that in the next version (just around the corner).

G'Kar & Fatality_ I'm going to look into this as it could be a bug caused on Win2K or maby in combination with SP4.

Edit: It's apparently a confirmed bug in their software on Win2K SP2 -> SP4 machines (sorry guys :()

No problem, I suspected something like this already, it's not your fault. I found out how to use the program called AutoHotkey in the meantime, it'll do. :)

Beta 1.1 uploaded

For those of you who do not run WinXP the program should now detect that and display an alternative input option where you can write your pause key function.

NOTE: XP users don't need to download the newer version (unless you really want to check out the two new added radiobuttons ;))

Now the Pause/Break won't fire until you check the radiobutton 'Lock'.
For the non WinXP users here's a few command:

space = spacebar button
insert = insert button
delete = delete button
home = home button
end = end button
up = up arrow button
down = down arrow button
left = left arrow button
right = right arrow button
tab = tab button

I think you can experiment some yourself (ie tab = tab button).
The idea was to keep it simple I will there for not build in clickable controls.

Hauptmann: I forgot to check the key you asked for. I'll PM you about that one.

Thanks PackMan, now it works flawlessly! :)

I noticed that when using the space bar for pausing, you can still type a space in unit names by pressing shift+space - a nice side effect.

Ah, I'm glad we got it working for you guys too :D
Nice to hear the shift+space method working also. When I get some extra time over I'll document this properly and add that as a txt file.

Thanks for the feedback!!

Thanks for the Shift-space idea. Program works well in XPSP2
