Hi everyone,

In general: I have roughly 100 and then some hours logged in EU4 (and an unknown amount in EU3), but one thing I never quite got is how to keep certain values maxed. Army tradition, for example: I know how to raise it (winning battles, choosing idea groups wisely, etc...), but I never seem to be able to take it beyond ~45 to 50 - and thus end up receiving 2 star-generals at max. Same with Power Projection, ever since 1.8 I haven't had any PP beyond 30.

So I guess my question is: Are there any strategies I'm missing to keep these maxed? And more specifically: How do I effectively raise them playing Sweden? Because atm the only way I see is constantly waging war at either front (Denmark/Muscovy).

Thanks in advance :)

Each seige you compleat give you 1 army tradition, to keep it high you have to do alot of warfare, use merc if your manpower is low, Sweden get cheaper merchs anyway.

Against rivals you can use the humiliate peace deal which give you 30 pp for no aggresive expansion.

You're not supposed to keep them maxed, only to keep them as high as possible. Power Projection you can get from embargoes, privateers, and military action against your rivals.

Army tradition ends up decaying to a certain equilibrium. The more stuff you do with armies, the higher your AT will end up being. You can also make it much easier to keep high tradition by taking ideas that increase it (defensive) or reduce decay (innovative) which have about the same effect.

The only stuff you can expect to keep maxed is legitimacy and prestige - legitimacy is reset, often to 100, when you change rulers. Prestige is only really lost when you lose wars, which you shouldn't do. :)
And if you're maxing out Republican Tradition, you're doing something wrong. :)

But to speak to your situation specifically, Sweden does have a peculiar downside of being relatively isolated from weak enemies. If you were playing the same sized nation in another region, you would find it easier to keep these values high, as you would constantly find new enemies to roflstomp.

For power projection specifically, you only need to keep it above 50 for the most relevant bonus, and maybe 60 or 80 for republics. For non-republics, you don't get much for getting PP above 50.

Army tradition - wars, sieging, micromanagement (be sure that you are not employing more soldiers for the battle than needed; i.e. infantry to cover enemy line + flanking cav + full line of arty), Defensive and Innovative idea groups, war college, mining act (Expansion+Quality), Deserter Act (Espionage + Quality).
PP - privateers, warring with rivals, diplomatic insults and humiliation.
