Note: This is my first AAR on the Ottoman Empire in Kaiserreich. My aim is to reform the empire into the regional power it once was, hopefully being able to expand not only in the Middle East but Europe. I apologize for a lack of a profile pic, the reasons too petty and boring to be mentioned here. Also, I'm sorry any for spelling mistakes and bad grammar. I hope you enjoy and like my attempt in After-Action reporting!

The Ottoman Empire: 1936 Chapter 1
Even victorious in the field of war, the Ottoman Empire was a mere shadow of it's former glory. Faced with mass dissent from the disenfranchised lower classes, vast tracts of land in north Africa and Europe gone and it's economy at a low, the government is hard pressed to even keep the empire in check and unity. These fears are heightened because of the pervasive Syndicalist unions who have already taken over France, England and Ireland. They tell lies to the poor, promising them equality and better life conditions while doing nothing of the kind. Mahmut Esat Pasha, minister of security fears the worst in what could kickstart a series of rebellions leading to, Allah save us, a Syndicalist Turkey!

Turkish Cabinet.png

The Ottoman Cabinet during 1936. Note that the Prince (a strong believer of the Turkish monarchy, and staunchest opponent of Syndicalist and democratic movements), son of Abdul the Third is the foreign minister. This has lead to accusations of favoritism and nepotism. Also note the power of the Pasha family that hold the majority of important positions. It is argued (and correctly) that they are the true power behind the throne.

In attempts to solve this many generals were purged, accused of cowardice and being traitors. New currency was printed (in the form of the Abdullad, named after the Ottoman monarch) to keep the economy afloat in times of trouble. This however had it's own problems by creating further inflation, worsening the already poor conditions of the lower classes. Bread costs more, houses cost more, clothing costs more while there are less jobs as factories close down. Thankfully however the situation hasn't collapsed entirely, and Prime Minister Dejmal Pasha promises reforms that will end the depression.

Albania.png

Albania, a European puppet state controlled by the foolish Wilhelm the First. It's powerless and is ignored by the cabinet for the time. However advances into Europe could promise the country a Balkan kingdom if the Ottomans succeed.

Oman.png

Oman is another puppet of our empire. It is small and weak, but is respected as true Muslims by most of the Turkish. This harks back to political and economic reasons, when Oman loaned large amounts of money against the Entente in the Great War. Reports unfortunately show that the locals wish to secede and make their own way around the world.

Armenia.png

Armenia, our only puppet capable of military capacity against enemies in our borders. This means that Armenia shares the most influential role as a puppet, capable of influencing the Turkish government when necessary. Cited by Cemel Aga Pasha (head of staff) as the only other country he would be happy to die for.

While the situation at home is barely improving there are powerful nationalist and militaristic movements in the government. Supported by none other then Abdul the Third, a layabout more interested in sustaining his decadent lifestyle then running his country. However he firmly believes in restoring the Ottoman Empire to it's great and glorious Empire, the pride of the Muslim world. Abdul understands that peaceful compromise is impossible. Too many of the nearby rivals (Egypt and Persia as some) are proud of their independence and would look poorly on attempts to incorporate them. While total war at the present state is a bad idea that would possibly ruin the Empire, small conflicts against Georgia and Hashemite Arabia could prove to be easy conquests and starter steps to rebuilding the empire.

To intimidate their neighbors from declaring war in retribution to wars in the Caucasus and Arabia an alliance was broached with the German Empire, an old ally from the war days. Abdul and the cabinet both saw this as beneficial, as it would promise a strong nation to stand by with in the tumultuous days that follow. The treaty of Istanbul (where it was signed) would end with a coffee in the busy streets of old town near the Hagia Sophia where Wilhelm the Second von Preussen and Abdul the Third chatted and got to know each other. Hopefully this will represent a future of German and Turkish cooperation.

Shortly after, Ottoman forces led by the capable Field Marshal Von Oppen (a German aristocrat that was sent over as a military adviser during the Great War) gather around Hashemite Arabia, while diplomats cancel the non-aggression treaty that held our Empire in check. Plans to strike at Damam and Mecca, Muslim capital of the world are finalized. Some of the more religious hardliners are adamant that a true Muslim will enter the city first, not Von Oppen. Germany promises full support if the war happens, with a vast amount of bombers and troops nearby to make this happen. In fact, Rashid Pasha has urged the combined forces to move fast and take Hashemite territory before the Germans can get their own hands on it.

upload_2016-4-29_19-26-28.png

These are the forces of Field Marshal Von Oppen, supported by two other armies, arrayed against 3 Hashemite divisions. The current battle plan calls for Von Oppen to strike at Mecca while the other two take Dammam and Riyadh respectively. This will then allow them to move to Abu Dhabi and seize the capital, annexing the Hashemites before direct German intervention.

Next time... war with Hashemite Arabia, war with Georgia and events around the world.

I believe so, and so far it's fine. What problems would you face if it was unedited? So far I haven't seen any.
Well, aside from the savedebug bloating up in size, the map just looks ugly with all that black. Besides, it looks like several countries have practically become rebel havens (a province goes black if partisans spring up from it). Maybe you could end up having crashes in the middle of the game, but that's just my speculation. I'd recommend you go to the main Kaiserreich thread if you want more answers.

Oh I see! No, no, no. There's actually no problem, it's just that many countries were made black for some reason. None of the countries have partisans and I've had no crashes yet. But I get it, I was worried something was wrong at first too. Thankfully I've had no problems yet and got used to the color.

There was no "Pasha" family. Pasha was a title of nobility in the Ottoman government, sort of like Sir for the UK or Von for Germany and Austria. You might want to edit that part. Great start nonetheless, and good luck in bringing the fear of Allah on the Syndicalist dogs!

I know, but for narrative reasons I made it so, because I really like the idea of a large family running the show. Thanks. Georgia will be the first to fall!

Next update! (Please say if you're interested. I wouldn't want to be posting to an empty audience in a self indulgent manner)

The Ottoman Empire: 1936 Chapter 2
The Sultan's Crowning.png

It is a glorious day, for on the 30th of January, 1936 celebrations across the empire erupted as Sultan Abdul reached 10 hijri years since his coronation. He talked to a large crowd at the gates of his palace, mentioning a new future of prosperity and success. He had no mention of an invasion into Hashemite Arabia, but discussed in length on the need to crush the invasive Syndicalist threat that not only festered inside like a disease, but bordered us like some grotesque corpse attracting flies not only to their land but to ours. Georgia!

The 15th of February was to be a momentous day in the year 1936. At nine o'clock in the morning Ottoman troops marched into Hashemite Arabia, under the pretense of keeping Oman secure by sharing a common border. This invasion left a bad taste in the mouths of our neighbors, Egypt and Persia who both saw this as a tentative (if not even enthusiastic) step to Ottoman dominance. Yemen, a small country bordering Hashemite Arabia feared for it's own safety and assurances from Prince Ahmed did little to sway it's fears. Von Oppen, strategic mastermind of the attack waited for a dispersed Hashemite army, with smaller forces in each province. This allowed the forces to outnumber and outclass each of the armies in turn, giving them a high chance of victory. Von Oppen was noted as mentioning 'This is not war, it is mere sport!' before commencing attacks on Mecca.

War with Hashemite Arabia.png

Our forces lead the charge, with the Basra Ordusu attacking Dammam, the Hedjaz Ordusu attacking Riyadh and the Trablusgarb Ordusu attacking the holy city of Mecca. Estimates of the length of the war range from a week to several days, speed being of the essence so they can secure Hashemite territory quickly before any other enterprising jackal steals some meat from the carcass.

Abdul is reported to being glad of the news, and mentions that this day would live on in history. Probably from the show of might by the Ottomans, both Tripolitania and Oman joined Mittleuropa, expanding the German's middle eastern base. Egypt saw this as a threat particularly as it was border now both by the Turks and Tripolitans exposing it to a possible two front war. Djemal urged the German Kaiser to invade Ethiopia which would mean that Egypt would be surrounded on three, nay four sides! There was always Germany's puppet in Africa, Mittelafrika led by the fat buffon Goering. Egypt was right to shake in their boots!

Oman Independence.png

Terrible news! Oman, our long time ally and partner has decided to leave us in the wake of the war with Arabia. Knowing that this would have am adverse effect on our people, Mahmut Esat created a myth that the Oman government was subverted by Syndicalist enemies who had forced the locals into unwillingly following us. To remedy this and 'free' the Oman people war was declared against them. Mahmut promises that everything will be back to normal afterwards. Foreign critics note how beneficial this is, giving us an excuse to attack Oman and seize yet more territory. Blasphemous lies!

Meanwhile victories abound in Arabia, as Von Oppen marches to Mecca, while Major General Kazim succeeds in defeating the garrisoning forces of Dammam against Hashemite's best general. However the best of Arabia pales to what we have to offer! Kazim promises a take over of Abu Dhabi quickly and succesfully. General Cevat is still fighting enemy forces in Riyadh, reinforced by fleeing divisions from Mecca. The Germans have limited themselves so far to bombing runs weakening our enemies. Allah praise their efforts!

Black Friday.png

Allah protect us! The German's have suffered a financial crisis which is only now affecting us. Companies are ruined and the economy sorely threatened while people complain about Dejmal's non-existent reforms. Let us hope this will not impact us for too long or too bad, we have a war to win!

Glory be! Von Oppen has successfully taken over Mecca, being the first to enter it's hallowed ground. This enflamed religious conservatives who saw this as a disgrace against Allah. Not only this, but Von Oppen dedicated his victory to Mittleuropa rather then the Ottoman Empire he served. This shows a greater loyalty to Germany, his home country rather then the empire. Already has Oppen become a controversial general, though his skill at command keeps him safe from political attempts for the time being. Soon after his takeover new orders filtered in, expanding the war to Yemen. Abdul saw this as an opportunity to prey on the weak Arabian states before pouncing on Georgia. His reasons for the attack was for 'safety' as Yemen terrorists attacked a military convoy. Whether this happened or not remains in doubt.

Major General Kaszim on the other hand is attacking El Hofuf with General Cevat. Hofuf is the new capital of Hashemite Arabia, and is defended by it's last army. After being taken over an offensive on Abu Dhabi was prepared. Unfortunately German troops had occupied it, and so the Ottoman armies had to look elsewhere to Oman. Good news however, as Yemen and Hashemite Arabia were annexed, leaving only Oman. On the Georgian border troops amass, ready to take the fight to Syndicalism in the Caucasus. Victory is assured, though Georgia won't be as much as a pushover the Arabians were.

Arab Congress.png

Most likely because of our rampant Imperialism relations with Oman and Egypt were further ruined as both became more aware of their own identity and culture. Egypt soon became a haven for far right groups that advocated hostile measures against our empire. If the government does nothing about this, then we could use this as an excuse for war, mainly to stop terrorist and powerful nationalist movements that threaten us directly.

While war rages in the Middle East the Olympics began! Turkey was happy to send it's representatives and sport's team. We won two medals, one gold and bronze for wrestling. People celebrate all over Turkey, happy at our victories not only in war but sport as well! Is there anything we can't do? And it seems that we can't annex Oman as one. The Germans took over the capital prior to our forces and annexed it. Sadly not all of Arabia is ours, but as it is in the hands of our allies we are safe for the time being. A small petty rebellion in Kuwait rose up, soon to be crushed by our troops.

Turkish Arabia.png

Our territory after the Arabian wars. The Grey is Germany and the black that has Turkish troops inside them (easily seen I hope) is a part of the Ottoman Empire.

Next time... Invasion of Georgia!

I'm assuming you're going to join Mitteleuropa?
Oh I don't know... for the time being yes but I'm not interested in being dragged into a war against the Entente (they're fellow monarchists some of them) and even I'm a bit apprehensive against facing the syndicalist Europeans. Basically I should be dragging Germany into wars, not the other way around.

This is great so far, but you really need to fix the country colors. I think this AAR would become nigh impossible to follow if the Ottoman Empire and Egypt are the same "rebel black" color

Sure, I'll keep it in mind. But won't it force me to restart? And thanks! Well... I do plan to invade Egypt soon...

Subbed! And black is beautiful ;)
Thanks! Yeah it is, though I can see why it's annoying when everyone is black.

Did that sound racist?

The Ottoman Empire: 1936 Chapter 3

upload_2016-5-1_8-16-7.png

Ah wondrous Turkey! Everything that's light green (excluding Tripolitania at far left) is the Ottoman Empire. The dark orange is Egypt, the grey is Germany and the light orange at the very top (next to Armenia, which is blue) is Georgia, our enemy.

upload_2016-5-1_8-21-4.png

It appears we hold the fate of Hashemite Arabia in our hands. The choice was either to set it up as an independent puppet friendly to our government or take direct control and annex it into our empire. After much bickering and debate, it was decided that Arabia would be integrated fully in the Ottoman Empire. As we have seen too recently puppets can become traitors and threaten the stability of our glorious land (those who dare speak that Oman was no threat to us are loathsome beasts who are forsaken from the light)!

July 17th, 1936 was to be the Empire's first direct blow against the Syndicalist governments (excluding Oman, which was influenced unfortunately by those dogs to leave us), specifically in Georgia, or should I say the arrogantly called Trans-Caucasian Socialist Republics. The very name puts a bad taste in our mouths. Soon after the declaration of war new propaganda was manufactured, painting the Turks as holy harbingers of Allah's justice on the atheist devils cowering before our might. Because of the purity and 'good' this campaign represented it stirred up lots of enthusiasm, something the Arabian take over could never do. Recruitment rates were at an all time high! The attack was led by Field Marshal Gazi Pasha (brother of Djemal Pasha [yes I'm using pasha as a family name, not title]) who commanded 3 divisions of mountaineers (very important in attacking the mountains of Georgia) directly and two other armies of two infantry divisions and a cavalry division. The force was bolstered by a small Armenian army led by General Kalaydjian who commanded one militia division and one infantry division.

upload_2016-5-1_8-42-1.png

Our forces attack the enemy, with Field Marshal Gazi attacking Kutaisi and the two Ottoman armies (Erzurum Ordusu and the Izmir Ordusu) attacking the capital, Tbilisi. It turns out Armenia is unwilling to join in, preferring to stay out of this one. The result was not pretty, with Sultan Abdul roundly cursing Armenia, a once beloved ally. He understands too well that this shows an unfortunate trend. We have already been betrayed by one puppet, will this be another? Djemal is already formulating plans to release Armenia and then promptly invade it, if things become worse.

While the lack of participation of the Armenians is... disappointing the overall war is doing quite well. Field Marshal Gazi's men are beating the enemy more slowly then expected, due to the various highly defensible positions. Even our mountaineers are slowed down by mines, bared wire and killing lanes where machine guns bring out quick death. The attack on the capital is more successful, with our forces slowly overrunning the Georgian troops. They're putting a good fight by Allah, but it is not enough in the face of our advanced forces. Meanwhile another province rebels, only to be defeated soon after. Will the dissent and anger ever end? Do these petty rebels not understand the importance of creating the new Sultanate, the new Ottoman Empire?

upload_2016-5-1_9-11-30.png

Yemen is annexed by our forces. Due to Yemen just being a side show of the main invasion, and it being a small country in the first place this is a harder option. However Abdul proclaimed that the time for a benevolence is over. The Ottoman Empire must play rough to conquer the fragmented middle eastern countries, and granting independence left and right may please the people but it would weaken us internally. The occupation WILL continue.

Field Marshal Gazi was defeated two times by the Georgian army, the strong defenses proving too much for him and his divisions. This shamed him into leaving the military to prevent further dishonor, probably to pursue a life of a marine biologist. He was replaced by the more skilled Esad Pasha who promised a quick and clear victory. He decided to synchronize his attacks with the newly arrived German divisions. Meanwhile Tbilisi has been taken over, with the support of German amphibious units (pragmatism can cause stranger things to happen). After taking over the capital Georgia was annexed, bringing the war to a quick end. The invasion was surprisingly simple and while it did have it's setbacks it was a generally very clean affair. A couple of rebellions soured the victory but like always, they are quickly crushed.

upload_2016-5-1_9-25-57.png

Here you can see the extent of Georgian land controlled by the Ottoman Empire. The northern tip is controlled by Germany, who successfully attempted an amphibious assault. Abdul was pleased when the news of Georgia's defeat was brought to him. Rashid Ali was then tasked with creating a plan on invading Egypt, defeating the empire's first big rival (the other was Persia which can be barely seen here, it's the pale khaki colored country bordering Armenia (blue).

Troops are now ordered to march towards Egypt, preparing for another offensive. !936 is certainly turning out to be a violent year for the Empire, with Hashemite Arabia, Yemen, Oman and Georgia defeated. Hopefully we'll be able to expand to Egypt and perhaps Persia before the year is out.

Next time... Invasion of Egypt!

(Sorry for a short post, I want to keep the invasion of Egypt to the next update. Should I also explain technology and the economy? Or is that a bit boring?)
