While our good N-american fellows are enjoying MP game other K2 group members are sitting and doing nothing. I started this thread to find at least 4 people and a host for a european game. I checked member list and found out that at least 10 players from europe has free time in saturday, although we can arrange it in other days too. Please be active :p

I might think of joining this group, as my game with the Americans brings me to the late hours of the night. But I will first see whether or not they can get a new USA.

And shalkl this Europa game use TeamSpeak?

Count me in Edzako! By th way, I will take this chance to place my country choice in a future game. ;)

Aki - Germany or SU

Thanks for the effort mate , you´ll see that this time we will get a game going. Just remember Ed, don´t let the group grow too much, if I may give my opinion in this, I would say a group of 4 is the best size, for all reasons.

Just a note on that part of the point of having games on Weekends is that we can avoid a lot of the time zone problems. Weekdays is another story.

I don't see why we can not put a time limit of 23:00 or 00:00 GMT on weekends. Given a 15:00 GMT start, we are still looking at a healthy 8 or 9 hour session. That would be a little late for Edzako I think but is possible is it not?

The real problem is hosting.

In anycase, what I am working on is keeping the regular Saturday sessions going (the present game should rap up this week, unless the Allies are extremely lucky.) So a new session should start the week after next.

What we really need to do though is find a host for both Saturday and Sunday weekend game, as I can not do that.

Yes I think that can be done especially when end of school is so close, but that must be discussed in this thread, I don't knew, but maybe some of you are working, or have no free time. But proposal is good, because it seems that there are not many European players hanging around.

Aki - I understand you worries about group size, but I hope that this time we could get more reliable people. Also If we find a host we can arrange a game of 6-8 people, but main core countries give to reliable players. As Cueball said main problem is host.

Hannibal Barca2 - I have no experience with TS, but if you give positive recommendations I think that we could get it. It's free isn't it ?

P.S. I probably can find a few more players from Latvia, but I can't evaluate how good players they are. So choice is yours.

About group size. Ok it´s your thread I was just voicing my opinion. eheheh

About players from Latvia, bring them on !! Thing is Ed, even if they´re inexperienced players in MP gaming HoI2, well so are we, at least I am. I think the main concern would be how reliable people are and not if they play great or not... There´s no point in that if they don´t show up, right?

So I´ll just ask one other thing. How long do you think on keeping "draft" period open? I know much depends on finding a good host but. Couldn´t we start a game right now, and grow from that?

This way we would start knowing people, gaining experience, and well maybe building a more solid foundation for a large group in the future.

BTW White Daimon is Danish, not american as I tought, so he would be another player, I´m sure he´s intrested

Your statement seams reasonable, but I don't knew will our internet connection speed could support four player, I contacted with White Daimon and he agreed to join. He said that he has solved problemswith connection.
Here is a internet adress where we can test speed, but I don't know how powerfull internet you must have to be a host even for a small game, I have hosted a games with 4 players, but we all were from LV, so it's different. My
internet connection.

The main thing is to have a good upload speed. Many Internet Serivce Provider's only advertise their higher download rates. Mine advertizes its higher download rates of 2400 K/bits per second, but that is irrelevant to hosting. What is important is how big your upload bandwidth is, because the host computer is feeding upload data to all the computers it is hosting.

So if you have a 100 k/bit upload, and four players on it, the bandwidth they are playing on is devided equally between each of the machines the host machine is sending data too. That is pretty slow.

It doesn't matter if your connection can download 2400 k/bits per second, if the machine sending you the data is only sending you 25 K/bits persecond. 25 K/bits is what you get, if that is what the host is sending.

I think the minimum you need is 100 k/bits pers second per player. So for a four person game like the one you are proposing you should really have a 400 K/bit Upload rate.

Mine is about 800 K/bits, and that seems to work well for about six or seven players, in terms of lag, but other problems arise when you have more players such as more CTD's (crash to desk top).

Another trick I have learned is that if you are overloading your host, you can simply slow the game down and that will kill a lot of lag. The obvious drawback of this is that it takes longer to play through the interwar years, at the slower speeds.

Hope that helps.

Yes it helped, I tested several links and my average upload speed was about 400 kb/s maybe little slower. However my computer is old, that will not slow down game ?

400 K/bits upload?

Well that is pretty good. I know that Ironman host a decent, if not perfect game from Belgium with 4 to 5 people, at that connection rate. The game functions though sometimes it has to be played at a slower speed.

4 people is a good core group for a game I think.

Sometimes it gets a little slow. About your computer I don't really know. But on thing that will help your CPU out a little is playing with counters for yourself instead of the sprites. Each one of those little actions is a seperate picture your graphics card has create, so that might help a little.

With an upload speed like that you might as well try and see how it goes.

By the way that is a cool site, I am adding it to my favourites. Good find.

I tested at 587 to Riga upload. Interestingly I send at 745 to Baku. The internet is a strange place. Probably all the oil concerns down there demand maximum connectivity.

But before you get to far along with that idea you should probably test it out to see if you have any firewall or router issues.

A european game sounds good since I don't want to stay up untill the early hours.(as we europeans have to do if the americans are playing at evenings).
So I could take on Italy or Su. or anything else if these are not available.

I checked my upload speed on some foreign servers and they showed 370 in London, 330 in Lisabon, 360 in Paris, 350 in Athens, 350 with Baku, 400 with Malmo, So it's about 350 in Europe, people who feel strong about their internet connection could try to test in several places, because I doubt that my internet speed is better than yours.
Also, people who wanted to play:

Hannibal Barca2 - ?
Aki Mackensen - Germany or SU
robin_hero - Italy or SU
Cytral - ?
Edzako - UK

P.S. Btw Cueball I have played quite a lot games with Latvian players and several international games too so I think that there will be no problems. But People who want to play, I recomend to TEST your internet speed, because I
assume that we will need better host than me.

It's nice to see that our European brothers are getting something going here! Will there be a game this weekend? :)

Hurrah for Europe!!!

Ed, I checked my internet connection...err...I can play well enough, but as far as hosting is concerned, as I already suspected the results are too shameful to mention. So my contribuition will have to be limited to my incredible desktop strategy skills!!! ;)

P.S. - KT2 I saw your post in my group thread.. but since Edzako started this one I moved all my hopes towards getting a group going in here. But of course, and I think I can speak for everyone here on this, both groups will always be kindda linked, ppl already more or less know each other and well both groups will always be connected in the future. So resources are already connected also, Cueball has been really terrific, in the way he tried to help, both in my old thread and now here, and that other player who offered is server ( saddly I can´t remember is name now :( ), they are all from k2, so all of this to say, thank you for all your help, and if Edzako manages to get our group going, K2 members will have contributed in no small ammount to get Europeans going....errr...this seems kindda Deja vú... Haven´t the U.S. done this a couple of times already ? :D

That idea sounds great to me.... and you're right! I look forward to seeing aar's from other games and sessions! Some of the people that have joined K2 have been very helpful and generous with their ways and I have been very fortunate to have these people on board. Cueball has been extremely helpful with many things. Cyprian has offered us use of his TS server which has been really nice and Edzacko and yourself have helped us along with getting this group rolling in Europe. So I am very pleased with the way things are going with K2, it has been nothing but a pleasure for me and I look forward to the future. :)

Hi all

Im terribly sorry. But i think i´ll have to back down on the multiplayer thingy, at least for a while :(

I think i´ve solved the problem, but not sure. And i dont wanna find out too late... And more importmently, im in the middle of my exams. And i really need to study, at least a little bit. So I´ve decided to try and cut back on some things, DD being one of them. I´ll continue my AAR, but i doubt i´ll have much time for anything else. Again sorry :(

I hope that someday, in a month or so when the exams are finished and i start my long time and glorious carrier as dog-poo collecter. That then i´ll have time to play with you again. It seems like a really great group and im saddended not to participate.

HOWEVER!! should you start any AAR´s or so over the sessions. then i´ll be glad to comment.... ( and spy on your tactics so i can annihalate you later.... muahahhahahahhah :D :D :D , no wait, you shouldnt hear that... forget what i just wrote ;)
