I was thinking.... It's forbidden to post flags including the swastika on the forums but it's not forbidden to post USSR/CCCP flags? AFAIK Soviet Union slaughtered way more people than the Nazis did, so what kind of an argument is backing this up?

NO, I'm NOT bitching why not to have swastikas, just wondering WHY to HAVE Soviet flags.

Certain flags and symbols are illegal in Germany, which is one of the countries where this game is sold. AFAIK the Soviet flag is not currently illegal anywhere.

yes, it is funny that the soviet flag is not forbidden in ANY place of the world, but the swastika is. :(
i think that both should be illegal, or both legal...
This has nothing to do with Paradox, they just do what the law says. :D

Still, another question remains (which does not have anything to do with Paradox Entertaiment, though): why should there be such bans in modern civilized societies?

Because of the Holocaust. I know that the Soviets also killed many persons, but they killed everyone. And they shot them. But the Germans were more noticed, because Soviet were so secret about them selves.

god bless america

I am a petty officer in a navy seabee (construction battalion) unit getting ready to be deployed. My father was a POW in WWII . He was shot down in his B17 (G model) with the 487th bomb grp. on April 3, 1945. His father served in WWI in France as an aircraft mechanic. My mothers father was in the canadien infantry and suffered horrible wounds at the battle of the Somme. I could go on and on. What is it that you have against americans and what is it you like about dictators and fascists. Sometimes I don't understand why europeans think we are so horrible, I really don't.
Most americans (like myself) are really transplanted europeans and naturally feel a close tie to the continent. If we we didn't then the map of europe would look quite different today if we never got involved in your affairs. Vietnam was stupid and a waste of 50,000 lives (mostly draftees) but I can't think of too many conflicts that we were involved in that were not justified.
And remember that not every one of the 270 million americans works in the White House.

Actually, seabee, sorry but I agree with Europeans on some points of this issue. =( Yes, we've saved their butts several times, but that doesn't mean that they need to be grateful and supportive and subservient and whatnot FOREVER. If our positions were reversed, and it was Swedish men and women liberating the United States from Mexican invaders (Haha!) in WW2, would you want our country to owe them a blood debt for the rest of time? Sure, they did us a good turn, but it was awhile ago and it's time to move on.

I'm NOT supporting the way some Europeans are acting now, though. =P I don't think they're ungrateful, just ignorant, if they think that we're all warmongers and that freedom isn't our wish for our country and others. I definately support the war in Iraq because of the ways Suddam Hussein oppresses his people. They starve, they constantly scramble to stay alive and keep their loved ones alive, and Suddam does nothing. He attacks them with mustard gas. That sort of man needs to be taken out. The opportunity presented itself, and so we took it. I will agree that oil IS definately on our minds, but it isn't what is dictating our policy. The United States by itself produces FAR more oil than Iraq anyway.

I guess I'm finished ranting now. ;)

Your friendly neighborhood communist barbarian,
~Destiny

just wondering the weird logics of today's governments

that´s easy. german law considers the nsdap, the ss as criminal organizations. moreover they are considered unconstitutional as is the raising of the arm. so advertizing these things is a crime. thats the logic behind it.
topic is viewed differently when it comes to history classes. for educational purposes it´s as okay as history is, but then you usually have a teacher or comment with it.

a video game would not be considered educational. i can live pretty well without swastikas and do not have the impression anybody historic knowledge suffers without...

remember this you americans out there: without france, there would be no USA. You tend to easily forget that. Apart from that i'm just tired of the USA to try to act like some world saviour. I must admit that i'm drunk right now, but let us europeans handle our own affairs. Don't try to "do the right thing" e.g. Yugoslavia. I'm sure I can come up with some other excellent ecamples, but right now I just want to get laid and then sleep. Over and out.

Um, not to be crude, but horse-excrement. The British lost the war at Saratoga. By failing to split the colonies, they ensured that the revolt would continue for many years. The financial drain of the conflict would eventually have convinced the British to withdraw, regardless of French intervention. The revolutionary government would have been in a much weaker position after the war, certainly, and the U.S. truncated territorially (no Ohio valley or Florida), but the colonies would have eventually broken free.

Really, with the historically recent wars in Indochina and Algeria as object lessons, the French should not be blabbing about how we stupid Americans could never have succeeded in our insurrection without their aid.

Pet peaves, gah. Okay, I'm done now.

I wonder how long this thread will last...

To get back on topic ;), I can't say I'm sorry that the unspeakable symbol is banned. It allways give me a bad felling when I se it. No matter it's true history, it will allways be tainted... Unlike the beatiful flag I'm wawing.
